Hi All,
Wonder if anyone can help.I have a Touareg which i've been asked to
start once a week while the owner was on holiday.

About 3 weeks in the car remote key wouldn't unlockt he doors however owner said it did this quite often and not to worry.

Normally I leave the car running for about 10 mins and then switch off (i understand now should be driving it for 30 mins for it to fully recharge battery?)

Anyway, during the 4-5 weeks the car wouldn't start. No power to the lights, no horn, no dash, nothing.. completely dead.I tried to jump start, also used a Jump Start kit from a car shop (Halfords) and then also left the battery on charge for 36+ hours - still dead.

I took it to be drop tested and they confirmed the battery had a short circuit and requierd replacement, shopped around and got one for about ÂŁ60 (trade)

I've just put the new battery in and still have the same issue, no lights, no horn, no ignitiion, dash etc.

I've checked a volt meter on the battery and its reporting 12v, also tried jump starting from my car.I've check a few of the fuses but cant work
out which fuse would stop everything from not working.

I understand there are two batteries, i swapped the rear battery (as I udnerstand this is the ignition battery).

Can anyone shed any light on where i'm going wrong? - i'm not keen on taking to VW as i dont fancy leaving the owner with a massive bill whe they return(this saturday)

Any advice appreciated.

the other battery is under the front left seat, check at the fuse boxes if there is voltage using the volt meter, if not i am guessing the second battery needs to be charged as well.

there is a thread in the DIY forum on how to reach the battery under the front left seat.

thank you.

I've had a mechanic (who lives down the road from me) have a quick look.

He managed to get the car started by crossing a wire from the resistor next to the battery.

"It is the resister pack which oes from the live of the battery"

"not the fuse one"

He couldn't see a part code, does anyone knwo where i might be able to find this part to replace it?
