Hi everyone, I have just joined the site. I purchased a V8 R-Line in 2015 and have done 60,000kms of enjoyable and trouble free motoring. I live in Melbourne but have a small farm on the far South Coast of NSW. The car is usually used to drive back and forth fully ladened as well as various city driving when in Melbourne. In the bush I have an Isuzu Dmax ute that is fit for purpose.

Overall the Touareg has been brilliant and almost no issues. But I am really delighted with my purchase. I thought I would share my experiences.

Nothing has gone wrong other than one faulty light globe inside the rear luggage area. Replaced under warranty.

On the open road I did clip a small wallaby that simply bounced off the front lightly and hopped away. No damage to car or paintwork. Problem was it snapped the sacrificial plastic clip that holds the LH radar sensor. This was quite an expensive exercise to fix but reasonable considering the whole car and wheels had to be lined up to reset the radar. VW did a great job.

All services have been done by VW with no issues. Fuel economy for the size and power is great. About 8.0 litres/100kms usually fully ladened.

The only real issue I have had is with the wheels and tyres. When I purchased the car I asked them to fit 19 inch wheels from one of the V6 models. I wanted this so I could use the car more on dirt roads and poorer roads. The VW dealer did not want to since it meant changing over the tyre pressure sensors. In hindsight I should have just taken the 21 inch wheels off and kept them and put on 19inch wheels with more appropriate tyres and swapped over the tyre pressure sensors. But I have persevered with the 21 inch wheels and tyres due to the improved handling for highway travelling. The biggest issue I have found is the tyre pressure recommended by VW which is way too low for the tyres on 21 inch rims. Having bent two rims (I purchased a set of almost new rims on line at low cost) I now have no problems. The advice for the much higher pressure came from the tyre company that was aware of the problem. Also having a couple of spare rims I now carry a spare wheel in the back. That works OK for trips to the bush. Needless to say I have never needed it but it provides the comfort I need. There is also an issue in getting replacement tyres for the 21 inch rims - but I have now solved that.

I have got the car set up for towing with electric brakes to tow up to 3.5 tonnes but rarely tow with it even though it does tow great. I would have liked to put a bull bar on it but with all the technology up front it got too difficult.

So that is about it. Brilliant car. l look forward to keeping it for many more years. It is very comfortable and the power of the V8 makes cruising a dream. The adaptive cruise control is superb!!!

Welcome Fisho.

Yep....the R line is an awesome bit of kit.

First thing I did when we bought our MY16 last year was order a set of 19" Cayenne rims (5), a set of 5 TPMS that are working perfectly, and Pirelli Scorpion ATR+ tyres. The 21" rims and tyres are now stacked up in the corner of the garage. Not sure if they will ever go back on to the car, but I'm not prepared to off load them at this time.

Like you, we find the R Line (and all Touaregs actually - we had a 7L model before this one) very capable of long haul towing duties .

Hey Fisho,
I enjoyed your take on the Treg. Gotta say. I envy you folks in Australia woth the v8. The v6 diesel is great but I always wonder how the v8 feels. They are definitely solid rigs. I gotta make it to Australia one day amd test driver one of those v8’s.. I bet it is a dream! Congrats on your superb rig.
Cheers mate

Hi Fisho, great to read your story on the 7P V8 R Line. They are a great unit. I had wanted one but couldn't justify the stretch beyond the 2014 V6 TDi 4XMOTION I bought at the time. The V6 is great, the V8 would have been better for sure. At the time the car had to double as a daily driver for Mrs Pete. Everyone with the R Line V8 TDi (like Steve has noted above) has said how much they like them.

The TPMS issue can be easily resolved for non factory wheels like Steve said and the pairing up of the new TPMS sensors to the car is a painless exercise.

A photo of your R Line when you have a moment would be good.

Pete.

hi Steve, smart. I regret doing that from day one. Oh well, we live and learn. Thanks
