Picked up a 2005 Touareg V8 a week ago today. It's fully loaded, teak interior, shadow blue exterior. 85k, and I got it for $15k from a local dealership that's very reputable, and offers a lifetime engine warranty on anything they sell that has under 100k at the time of sale. I'm thinking of purchasing an aftermarket warranty as well, though.

This is my first VW, but I've been in the car world since I was driven home as a newborn in the back of a straight-piped 1974 911 targa. My father has owned over 40 911s, 30 BMWs, and a few Ferraris. He's been racing Porsches since the late '70s and was an IMSA, CVAR, and Little Le Mans champion. He's built over 1,000 911 engines for race teams, and himself. I've been Porsche Club instructing for the past few years, and am an SCCA instructor as well.

I spent my early car years (I'm 25 now) racing STis, and rallying them as well. I purchased a 2002 911 turbo in 2009, and DDed a 2000 A6 4.2 for the past 3 years. I sold the Audi in july and picked up an '83 944. The 944 caught fire while I was driving it on a local highway, and burned to the ground just 20 days later. I used the totaled money as a down payment on the Touareg. I'll be towing a rally car with it, and probably the 911 turbo as well. So, this is a great option as a car.

My plans are to get an iPod adapter, beefier tires, and that's really about it. Cutting the muffler off is also an idea in my head. I weld Porsche exhaust as a small side job, so I could fab something up that looks great and works well. But, that's a maybe.

I'm noticing a small odor when the air conditioning is turned on, but it only lasts for 30 seconds and then it's back to smelling like, well, nothing. So, I'm thinking a cabin air filter is in need of replacing.

Other than that the car is perfect. It's a blast to drive!

I'll post pics later when I'm home near the computer.

Make sure the cabin filter is not damp. If it is then your plenum chambers drains may be blocked. You also need to check the underside of the footwell carpet is not damp or wet.

No dampness on the filter or anywhere in the footwells. Filter is dirty, I'll change it.

when i went to america in 2009. the idea was we would buy an old van "initially an old lincoln continental" and cruise around the states after we finished working at the camp.

we paid 3 grand for a 95 g20 conversion van in the bronx "i wont mention the dealer. but i can advise NOT to shop there" lol. it was 3 grand to much. BUT! it did survive 2 years, 48,000 miles10,000 without oil.

it was so crazy cheap over there. i miss it sometimes. always welcome to australia :)

oh yeah.. had A LOT of fun in Wisconsin. "oh donchyoo know"

Ha..what month were you there? It does get a lil cold here sometimes....not as cold as some places where strange folk called Canadians live...but still cold.

Stevens Point is a nice town...

I live in Buffalo, we have lake effect snow. 6 or 7 feet in a day is common at least once a winter. Usual snow falls produce a few feet a day.
