So just to share my experience with you guys I ordered these LED lights from Alibaba and they cost me $600CDN for both.

I replaced the headlights yesterday which I must say is a hell of a job (most of it is spent getting the bumper off)

I am so pleased with the lights so these lights are built to be fitted to Halogen models of the Touareg not Xenon ones and they are awesome. The quality is really good. The LED works as DRL no coding or anything necessary. The HID high beam even functions unbelievable. Just had to mount ballasts and plug in CAN decoder which all came with the lights. I just hope they last but they have a 2 year warranty.

My Touareg looks awesome now I've converted all bulbs in the rear light clusters to LEDs, plate lights, footwell lights.

Anyone interested in this get in touch below.

I'm going to make a video on how to take the headlights out as there is literally no information on how to take the bumper off online and its mighty complicated.:grin2:

Hi LukeSmith, woooaaw now that looks Beautiful. Can you provide a brand or link to these lights. Ours is a MY 2012 and I've been looking for something like this. Even ordered a VisionX light bar for behind the grill and will mount to the major cross beam in there, it should be really bright. The stock incandescent buckets and bulbs are lame in my opinion least for the rural driving we do. Can you take some night pix and post?

Thanks for sharing!

I'll take some photos in my buildings parking garage and upload them. Yes the halogens are awful. I also changed the fog/cornering light to an Led headlight bulb off Amazon for $59.99 so they match the headlight now.

I've changed all the bulbs in the rear lights to Leds and now they look better than the stock led rear lights.

Its actually a bi xenon headlight so when you put the high beams on the xenon lens lifts in the headlight to produce a beam. It also has 2 halogen bulbs for high beam, so when you have your high beams on its ridiculously bright and with 6000k on the xenon's makes the halogen even look white. I have the photos I'll post them later when I'm back from work.

I have to say as for the LEDs the reverse ones were the hardest to find ones that didn't interfere with the canbus system. All of the LEDs are the ones on my vehicle and they all work with the canbus no coding required no VCDS required.

Links to buy headlights and all working Canbus LEDs with Touareg. AliExpress ships worldwide and you can pay in any currency.

I am think of doing the same thing to my 2013 tdi execline. Question...did you have to take off the bumper? Did you have to set the height of the light beam or did you just install and that was it. Lastly what length of the bulbs did you get for your foglights?

Regards

Thank you LuleSmith for sharing

I have several questions

What color temperature did you choose for your headlights (4300k, 5000k or 6000k)? and how much wattage (35w or 55w)?

Did you make that video for taking the headlight out? or instead can you give us some written tips about the procedure?

Can you post pictures for your tail lights to see how does it look using LED lights?

Thanks in advance

So to answer some of your questions the bulbs are 6000k, and 55w.

Before attempting this make sure you can remove the headlight connector before you even attempt it because they sieze easily and it took me 2hrs just to remove the connector on my 2013 because it was siezed and trust me I nearly gave up just on that and put it all back together so check that first.

If you can remove that ok and you are thinking of doing it I can send you the instructions I got of my mate who works at Volkswagen. The instructions are f*cking useless though seriously and these are volkswagen LOL. A video I didn't do as it took so long and it would have slowed me down even more. Getting the headlights out is easy, but the whole job is removing the bumper its a joke.

Thanks LukeSmith. Have you driven in rural areas with no street lights yet. Just wondering if you remain pleased with them.

Thanks again,

Yes really are the brightest lights I've owned, I don't do much rural driving though but when I have been the difference is huge. Because essentially you have the xenon bulb flips to become the high beam and you also have the addition of 2 halogen bulbs so you have 4 bulbs lighting the road. Its the brightest headlights I've seen on a car.

I am moving out the city next month so I will be doing lots more rural driving.

No most are T20 and T25, no unusual screws just make sure you have full Torx set.

Buy a good silicone spray for the connector on the headlight and spray that and try to remove that before you take anything apart (no need to disconnect the battery) as that can be one of the worst parts of the job.

Most VW connectors can be a bit finicky to release. I find that if you push the connector "in", then push the locking tab release, then it should come apart much more easily. I have a T2, but the headlight connectors are likely very similar.

That's right you should try to do that.

Mine was so seized, because of the harness location you have barely any room to get any torque to pull on the damn thing, I tried pulling then pushing using a flat blade to manovere it out. The one on the left came out 2 minutes however I spent 2 hours on the right one. I was willing to give it up completely on the job because of it. It was only when I sprayed silicone on it I finally got it to go. The last thing I wanted to do was f up my wiring harness.

ALSO BEWARE the clips snap very easily.

The "bi-xenon" function is actually a shutter that flips up when you engage the main beams. It then flips down for dipped. It is also what gives the sharp cutoff with __/ shape.

I still don't understand why manufacturers and others call them xenon lights. All halogen bulbs have xenon gas in them. So for that reason, all automotive headlights are "xenon". The actual term is HID (high intensity discharge).

From what i understand, The wire is tungsten and the gas is either halogen or xenon. The HID does not use a wire filament, that why it requires the balast and electronic trickery to produce the 40,000 volts required to jump the gas filled bulb from the tungsten wire and then reduces the voltage to lower than 35watts.

Not a lot of replies to questions recently, I get it, we're all busy. lol

Anyways, I went ahead and ordered up some LED bulbs to try out that will replace the single outer bulbs, the single inner bulbs, reverse lights and license plate lights. I will report back with pics and info.

I just thought I would let everyone know. A year on and the lights are still working great. I thought one of the indicator bulbs had blown but it was actually the side mirror LED. Anyway I ended up taking the bumper off again.

Just FYI if you do this, you don't need to put back the 3 headlight screws. Put only two back. Then you can take the headlight out without removing the bumper. The third screw I am pretty sure is not really needed. Its probably something to do with crash safety.

The screws you want to put back on the headlight is the one on top which is easy to get to and the one you can access through the dummy headlight washer cover.

Once you've removed the bumper once though its really easy. It took me 10 minutes to took it off. You just have to know where to pull hard and push hard. If your too light handed it will never come apart for you.
