Of those who have driven Touaregs 'off road tuned', what was the fuel economy and was there any appreciable increase?

At the end of the day it is a 2900kg vehicle, so I don't imagine it would get all that much better,

Offroad mine's around 11.5-12L/100km the last time I can remember (2013 V6 TDI, stage 1 tune NO DELETES, dirt roads/river crossings, driving slow up and down hills)

Worrying about fuel economy on a nearly 6000LBS SUV is... interesting. I figure once you move past midsize sedans and CUVs, fuel economy shouldn't even be apart of the equation. I always chuckle when customers are concerned about the fuel economy of their $2,000,000 650HP motor coach. Bruh, it's 6MPG downhill.

New Jam just dropped!
Oh that is the new jam! Gonna be a classic!

Definitely the mindset towards smaller higher combustion engines does not always add up. Having a larger motor that does not have to work as hard can be a better option. There is always a sweet spot. I feel the v6 TDI is that sweet spot of enough power vs. economy. I would love to have that 4.2 liter tdi though. It sounds so good and I bet has just enough extra power to make the Touareg feel effortless in propulsion.

Not attacking you personally- but I think the widespread hate for a kid having the courage to stand up for a better future is really pitiful and embarrassing, especially when it's coming from much older people that are supposed to be responsible adults. Young people have every right to be pissed that older people ****ed things up for them by not being responsible for the consequences of their own actions, and it makes me proud to see kids stand up for something they think is right, even in cases where I don't fully agree with them.

I know she's and adult now, but imagine if she was a kid from your neighborhood or school that was organizing people to make your community better in a way that was inconvenient for you, or you didn't agree with. Is that what you'd do, how you'd respond- print out pictures of the kids face with mocking slogans? I don't know about you, but if I really didn't agree, I'd certainly say something about it, but still wouldn't mock a kid for taking a stand on what they believe in.

I love cars, I love diesels, and I love driving fast- but I don't want to leave my son a diminished future where I'm enjoying myself at his expense. To me, I haven't found the two at odds, but actually work together well. I always feel torn about this stuff because I see both sides- and wish they could see each other. I grew up in a rural conservative area with a "car culture" and did a lot of blue collar jobs, but with parents that were scientists working on research related to environmental conservation, and am now a scientist/engineer myself that works on alternative energy technology.

Isn't that because a 1.2 litre engine is screaming at highway speeds because it doesn't have as much gears or power??

I don't know too much about fuel economy, but poet Damon Albarn once said:

"You can't even trust the air you breathe, 'cause Mother Earth want us all to leave"

Deleting a modern diesels doesn't do much in the way of mpg. The only time mpg will really shoot up is if your dpf is packed or your EGR is cooked etc.

Yep. But also the emissions systems are so efficient at not causing obstruction that the effects of removing them aren't huge, in terms of power and mpg of course.

My Touareg is more economical than the Subaru I had.
If economy didn't matter and I had the funds I'd buy a Trackhawk or a V8 Land Cruiser, a V6 diesel uses way less fuel compared to other large SUV's
I didn't have a large SUV that the Touareg replaced, just a 2005 Trailblazer EXT with a 5.3. For in-town mileage, it got 13 mpg avg in the winter (idling to warm up) and about 15-16 in the summer where you can just get in and go. The Touareg is getting about 18 for the around town stuff (not much difference between winter or summer as I drive it immediately in any weather). This is up from about 16-17 before the tune/delete. The TB got a best of 23 on the highway, and I saw 26 mpg in the Treg on a trip last year with just me and some gear. This is in a 2010 with the 6-speed. The 2011s and later with the 8-speed get better than the 6's even non-tuned.

The avg mpg in my sig is from about 4.5 years of ownership and tracking. That is 3+ years of non-tuned and just over one year tuned.

Roughly 1-2 mpg better in general. Sometimes less, rarely more unless you have severe emissions issues.
