Afternoon Guys. My Touareg unfortunately blue it's Turbo the other day with failed turbo Shaft. I opted to try a cartridge replacement but before fitting the turbo to the car I wanted to test it's original actuator to confirm its serviceability. When the ignition is switched on you can see and hear the actuator cycling freely without any issues. Unfortunately during the VCDS output test if fails to operate even though the cycle % fluctuates shows test complete and then throws up the electrical malfunction J724 P3348 message. Is it likely that the actuator is toast or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated 👍

I wouldn’t waste my time with a cartridge replacement. I’d replace the entire turbo assembly, actuator included. They are calibrated for each individual turbo. Start swapping parts and you’ll have issues.

Can't switch cartridges in these. I mean, technically you can.. China makes a host of them... but in my vast experience with variable geometry turbos, especially Garretts and KKK's, the cartridges are crap and will blow again. Every time you snap a shaft you risk catastrophic engine failure.

In my opinion.. since the turbo is shot, upgrade it to something bigger. Same price. More power. No drawbacks.
