Hmmm, good question. Well, one things for sure, if you have directional tires, you only swap front for rear on the same size.

Honestly, this is typically what I do as well (same side front to rear), even with my non-directional Nittos. The logic behind this was shared with me by a mechanic a while ago: The reversal of rotation can fatigue the belts in the tires, since they are spinning and loading in the opposite direction that they were spinning before. I don't know if it applies to the current crop of tires, but I still do it.

DicknNancy (owner of an alignment shop) posted on Vortex 11-13-2005 regarding this to counter cupping wear. He suggested rotating the front tires to the opposite side on the rear, and bringing the rears straight forward to the front. Correct alignment is a necessity.

I do put great faith into what Dick says, so I may have to change my procedures. Nitto's are almost due for their first rotation, so you could now say I'm a convert, as I will do them with Dick's plan.

Thanks for the info DenverBill!
