Hello, my wife and I are considering a new Touareg. I'm curious about fellow owners' opinions. We really only need a decent stereo and Navi from the base Sport model. Keyless entry and start would also be nice. We were at the dealership a few nights ago, but the sales person seem to want to go home so didn't get to test drive it nor listen to the stock stereo. How does the stock stereo compare to other cars? We've owned a few cars so if you can compare with any them, it would be great. A5 with B&O, stock BMW 3, E46m3 M stereo, LS with Nakamichi, S class with Dolby, Equus.

It seems that many decide to upgrade the stereo with an amp, sound processor, and a sub. How does the sound compare once that is done? Maybe even a new head unit with Nav?

Personally, I don't want to fork over $12k to add the upgraded audio. I know that it adds other options, but we really only want the audio and navi upgrade. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would never go back to that dealer again
Hahaha. Yes. We were only there since it was next to our BMW dealership. We wanted to compare head to head with the X5. The guy was telling us that no one buys a $50k VW here (US) since most people don't associate higher prices with the VW name. I think he just had something against the Touareg, or maybe his job... poor guy...

Go take a test listen and a test drive, and then decide.
Thank you. I will. But I would like to narrow down the cars and trim options we will consider before going to various dealerships to compare cars. Hence I'm just asking for suggestions. I understand that everyone's ears are different and everyone has different tastes. But a general consensus is always helpful.

Awesome guys. Thank you for your input. This is helpful. Seem like for regular listening it's "good enough".

Niner: my hearing is sub-par myself and I'm not audiophile myself. But this will most likely be our daily commuter so I need something to keep us upbeat for 2 hrs of rush hour traffic. John Mayer is in line to the type of music I listen to, so if it's okay to listen then it should be fine.

rinaic: that's actually really interesting. I didn't know it didn't have the sensors! But if the stock stereo is okay, we're most likely just going to get the sport/navi as you recommend. I will definitely take your advice and burn a MP3 CD or take my phone with some songs to try out during the test drive.

Thanks for the advice! If there are other things to consider, please chime in! Thank you!
