Hi l picked up a 2011 Touareg two weeks ago, its done 93000 ks has full service history and its lovely though out, on the way home wile starting off from a traffic light, l released the break it started l put my foot down and the engine built revs but the car did not find a gear, and l just rolled forward at about five kph till l lifted my foot and the the engine went back to idle it then found a gear and away it went, that has not happened again so far, but l have noticed a clunky gear change on down changers mainly from 6 to 5, l was wondering if anyone ells has had this happen ? l told the dealer strait away, he says to keep an eye on things, yeah as if l wont would appreciate any advice. Cheers Tommy

My 2005 touareg has the same problem when I bought. Went to the Vw dealer and they said do a transmission flash. After that, I notice the difference. Getting better a lot. But, sometimes, still..when it's heavy load, and down shift from 5 to 4, I can still feel the transmission shock.
The 5th to 4th THUMP is a very common fault.

You need a new valve chest.

Do a search for "valve chest" but it is also referred to as "valve body".

The gearbox reset you can do for yourself:

Turn the ignition but do NOT start the car.

Press the accelerator firmly to the floor and hold it there for a full 10 seconds.

Turn the ignition off and remove the key.

The car will now learn how you drive it.

It is worth doing this on a regular basis especially if the type of motoring changes from, say, lots of city/town work to open roads.

valve body maybe ?? What ever you do you are covered by the Aust lemon laws i would insist they get it seen to straight away (diagnostics etc etc ) and rectify the problem ..... NOW.

No stuffing around these laws are there to protect you and if you dont get it done its money out of your pocket

Where is Nooby when you need him .... how long till the valve body usually goes ??

Mine was shot when i bought the vehicle at 155k got it done straight away ... but then again you have a T3

Good time (while you are in the mood) to go over the vehicle to see what else could be wrong with it which the dealer would have to fork out for. I also had the auto rain sensor not working but they pulled the wool over my eyes with that one. Wasn't till later when i got the windscreen replace that the guy told me the gel pad from the sensor was missing therefore making the sensor useless. Wish i knew that before i would have been able to take the dealer over the coals on that one as faulty and therefore a safety risk. Would have stood up with the ACCC i reckon also.

I have done a gearbox reset recently and noticed quite an improvement on the way it drives.
I am only having a small issue where it does not kick in the turbo early on steep climbs when I really want to get over the hill quickly.

Anybody tried 'Revmax' updated valve body on their V10 yet?
