I TEST DROVE THIS TOUAREG YESTERDAY
2006 Volkswagen Touareg V8

THE CAR DROVE PERFECTLY AND THE PRICING IS GOOD YET THERE WERE SOME VERY STRANGE COSMETIC ISSUES WITH THE INTERIOR. IF I BUY THIS VEHICLE I WOULD LIKE TO FIX ALL OF THESE ISSUES BUT IM CONCERNED ABOUT THE TIME, COST, AND PARTS AVAILABILITY.
TAKE A LOOK AT THESE PICTURES AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK. ALL THE PICTURES HAVE TEXT EXPLAINING THE ISSUE AT HAND. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR REPLYS.. I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING AN ACTIVE MEMBER IN THE NEAR FUTURE

#1 - THESE LINKS SHOWS BROKEN PLASTIC UNDER REAR SEAT HEAD RESTS. BOTH ARE BROKEN. ARE THEY REPLACEABLE? EXPENSIVE? SUGGESTIONS WELCOME?

#2 THIS LINK SHOWS THE BROKEN SEAT BELT COVER WHICH IS UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGERS SEAT. SAME QUESTIONS.. ARE THEY REPLACEABLE? EXPENSIVE? SUGGESTIONS WELCOME?

#3 THIS LINK SHOWS THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR PANEL. IT IS SPLIT ALL THE WAY ACROSS JUST BEHIND THE SUN SHADE. THE RIGHT EDGE IS EASIEST TO SEE THE SPLIT IN THIS PHOTO. IT LOOKS LIKE THE DOOR MOLDING WAS PULLED AWAY FROM THE DOOR INCORRECTLY AND IT SPLIT ALL THE WAY ACROSS TO THE HINGE SIDE OF THE DOOR. THIS IS ONE OF MY BIGGEST CONCERNS DUE TO THE RARITY OF THIS COLOR COMBO AND THE COST OF A NEW PANEL.. SUGGESTIONS WELCOME

#4 PEELING CHROME ON ROOF.. COMMON?

https://plus.google.com/photos/101361472907126176469/albums/5816632990153675185

#5 MISSING 1 CENTER CAP.. COMMON?

https://plus.google.com/photos/101361472907126176469/albums/5816633170134481105

NOTES: THERE ARE SOME OTHER STRANGE MISSING PLASTIC PIECES INSIDE THIS CAR BUT I DONT HAVE PHOTOS OF THOSE.. SEE BELOW EXAMPLES

- MISSING SEAT BELT CLIP CASING
- THE PLASTIC COVER ON THE SLIDING ADJUSTABLE SHOULDER HEIGHT BUTTON ON THE SEAT BELT IS MISSING. LOCATED JUST OVER YOUR LEFT SHOULDER WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING...
- REAR ASH TRASH COMPARTMENT IN THE BACK SEAT AREA APPEARS TO BE STUCK CLOSED

A BUDDY OF MINE THINKS THAT THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD KIDS AND THAT THEY PULLED ALL OF THESE PARTS OFF SINCE MOST OF THE MISSING/BROKEN PIECES ARE IN THE BACK SEAT. MY CONCERN IS THE COST TO REPAIR THESE ITEMS AND AVAILABILITY OF PARTS.

THE OWNER IS ASKING 15,500 FOR THE VEHICLE. ITS HAS A WARRANTY FROM THE DEALERSHIP GOOD TO 100K OR TWO MORE YEARS FROM NOW. I AM HOPING THE WARRANTY IS TRANSFERABLE INTO MY NAME AND THAT PERHAPS.... SOME OF THESE PARTS WILL BE COVERED BY THAT WARRANTY. I AM THINKING ABOUT OFFERING 12,000 FOR THIS CAR WITH THE HOPES THAT SHE WILL COME BACK AT 14,000. I BELIEVE AT 14,000 THIS IS STILL A GOOD BUY EVEN WITH THESE STRANGE COSMETIC ISSUES.

ID LOVE TO HEAR WHAT YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT THESE PICS, THE WARRANTY COVERAGE OF THE BROKEN PARTS, THE PRICING, ETC...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK OVER THESE PICTURES AND CONTRIBUTE TO THIS THREAD...

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND...

1. Should not be an issue to replace them. cost??? check at firstvwparts.com - possible to get them cheaper from a part out. Probably caused by carelessness when folding the seats down.

2. also likely simple to replace. cost??? Not sure what's under it, but I might be inclined to just leave it.

3. I must be missing something. It looks normal to me.

4&5 I don't know. Center caps can be found cheap.

I think what you have to decide is whether you want a perfect used vehicle or something pretty good. You do have some bargaining chips.

I would, though, insist on seeing the service and maintenance records. Also I would want to see a carfax on it.

But if it all checks out and priced right then why not? Unless you are looking for perfect - in which case keep looking - near perfect ones are out there but are hard to find and command a premium.

Best of luck.

With how rough the interior was taken care of, regardless of if children were involved in destroying it (why would parents tolerate this behavior is beyond me), I would be concerned about how the vehicle was abused overall. It may have a good service record and a clean car fax, but that doesn't mean it wasn't abused like the interior has been. I would steer clear of a vehicle that has this sort of damage that is beyond regular wear and tear, just my opinion though.

None of this is normal or common...someone beat on the interior and didn't care to fix it.

Parts are always available but there's an easy $2000 worth of stuff to replace..

These plastic parts serve as a bumper as you fold the rear seat down, then a metal tab on the seat bottom fits into a slot in these to support whatever you put in top. They break frequently. I've made a mold and I'm recasting these with a high grade impact resistant polymer. They are solid and take quite a beating. I've beat mine all to hell testing them and they are still holding up fine.

I'll cast you a set if you want ... but the color choices are dark amber, really dark brown, or medium brown. The raw material is dark amber so it's hard to get the add-in coloring to do much good. My interior is the same as in your picture, and I can try my best to match it but no guarantees on color match.

They would be $8 for the pair plus shipping / handling - total of $10 in the U.S.

Dave, you said you can make these with no guarantees on color...I am not sure of the exact color of my interior (as I bought a previously loved Treg) but it is dark grey. Any chance you can make these to sorta match my interior, or happen to know the part number I need so I can get ones to match? Thanks! :)

Those plastic parts easily break, are cheap and easily replaceable.

Major issue is with the door panel. No fix unless you replace the door panel which is well over $600 new.

My T-reg has the exact same problem on the rear right door panel and I believe was caused by the dealer when they repaired a window motor problem.

The door panel once removed is tricky to put back correctly. If it does not sit precisely, this is what happens and it cannot be fixed unless the whole door panel is replaced.

Problem is when you close the door, you can see the door panel flip and move. It also creates a weird noise and also may rattle when you are driving by uneven surfaces.

offer accepted

we have an accepted offer at 14,800. There is a remainder if the extended warranty on the car that I am transfering into my name thru premier. I am a lil skeptical that I am over paying but these are rare and it has a lot going for it.. i hope to get all the little imperfections fixed asap.. I am already not looking forward to the timing belt, water pump and full 60 k tune up which is gonna run me 2k...

For the miles, warranty, condition and color combo you're getting a pretty fair deal.

Do your homework though. I see you're in the LI area. Depending on where this vehicle resides, I'd be concerned that it has flood damage from Hurricane Sandy. Buyer Beware when dealing with private sellers. Check under those carpets, in the engine compartment, spare wheel well, etc...

#1. Easy fix, held with 2 screws accessible by removing the headrest. I think I paid one $12
#2 and #3 don't know
#4. Same thing on mine.
#5. Replaced 2 of them on mine that were peeling/faded, around $15 each, easy fix.
You may have some chrome lug covers missing as well...

Small plastic parts are not expensive nor difficult to replace IMHO
I would be more concerned about peeling of the buttons on the dashboard and steering wheel, moonroof and windows controls, it looks really bad and is expensive to replace.
Do you have more pictures of the interior?
