Normally we tow our boat with a QX56 but this weekend it was in the shop.

The Touareg is my daily daily driver and I've never towed with it.

It was finally a sunny weekend so I just had to get out with the boat.

The Egg towed the 6,000lb boat easily.

I'm very impressed.

Eventhough the QX has 50ft/lbs more torque, the egg had no problems accelerating and going up some fairly steep hills.

At the launch I overheard one guy commenting to his friend about how we had such a small car towing a large boat.

vwDavid - We tend to go to Cultus as it is the warmest lake around here. Get a bit crazy due to the large crowds and boat rentals. Alouette is not bad but cold and also busy. Stave Lake is just as cold but with smaller crowds.

Thanks for the welcome NorthVan997C2S. We share similiar tastes Porsches and Touraregs. I have an old 964.

You have to watch being impressed by peak torque. A diesel "generally" produces its torque lower in the rpm range and with a much flatter curve. A gas engine may produce a larger number, but, "generally" nowhere near for as long. If they are 50 ft lb's apart, I bet if you looked at the torque curves, the diesel actually produces more area under the torque curve for the rpm range you work it. Re-worded, ... more usable torque. Of course, if use use the rpm range right under the peak in the gas and shift a lot that won't be true.

It would be interesting to look at the two torque curves.

TS was talking about two gas engines?
I am impressed with my V8 gas torque by the way. I will have no issues with anything you hook on the hitch. It will pull it fairly easily

964 was the best!
