Casio, what tyres do you have on?I can hardly describe how much I like the B6s, they totally transform the cars handling. It's much more fun to drive, like a whole different car. I didn't think it was possible for an SUV to handle this good, period.
Nothing even remotely performance oriented... this is a lifted offroad/family road trip vehicle.Casio, what tyres do you have on?
handles like its on rails
No, you would have to make your own links,Is there such an option for rear control links ?
There are other reputable suspension companies that have been around for a long time and know what they are talking about. But... there are also companies that will sell you suspension of various quality. I would stick with a known brand that has been around for a while, like Bilstein, Koni, KYB, Boge, Reiger, KW, Ohlins, etc...Can’t really see why you’d consider anything but Bilstein. B4 if you want OEM+, B6 if you want a sportier / firmer rude.
@gazaflashNo, you would have to make your own links,
Not too difficult but checking bump swear would have to be done again. Multi link suspension is more difficult to set up compared to strut and one control arm like the front
Txshaggy,@gazaflash
could you possibly give me some rudimentary sketch or measurements of what is needed? I have someone who can custom fabricate. It would be great to get lowered specs on point
How's the stability (high speed) and cornering with the stock height springs and Bilstein B6? I recently noticed a small puncture from the passenger side of my radiator.Txshaggy,
Difficult to make a sketch as the main control arm has to be shorter and the rear toe in link might have to be shortened too! i suspect it would have to decrease by approx 7-10mm. I did think of doing this but instead of re-engineering the rear suspension against the likes of VW boffins, the easier way, was to put it to the original ride height by installing new OEM sport springs.
If this was a beater car and just used for racing /rally then I would make tubular control arms with rose joints so its fully adjustable at every pivot point and then check the bump steer with no spring install to check the arc of suspension travel. Not for the average home gamer.
Just my 2 cents worth of info
Personally I think that it would be a good idea! Your ride height would be as factory spec. The springs would be compliant as normal. The Bilstein B6 work better and is in the correct range of travel on normal springs height, but with better handling characteristics than OEM shocks. I have noticed that the valving on the B6's is stiffer and its rejounce dampening is a lot more than stock. Wheel alignment would be much better and which ever shops you take it to, will be able to get the alignment specs dead on as VW states in their manual. How's the stability (high speed) and cornering with the stock height springs and Bilstein B6? I may consider going back to my stock R Line springs and keeping my Bilstein B6s
