I've been digging through the posts on ClubTouareg and still haven't found any solutions to this issue. My 2004 Touareg V8 has been getting a "System Fault Workshop" error message on the MFI from time to time. It occurs about 4 - 10 times a month - but once the vehicle is shut off and restarted it disappears.

The one other symptom is the lights around the Low/Hi Range selector know flash. After reading other posts I have not seen any of the other symptoms of having a dead battery or low voltage at any point. I do not have air suspension. I also had my tires rotated and balanced last week and they noticed some feathering occurring on my tires as well. I have also noticed that at very slow speeds turning sharp on pavement - it seems that my tires are "skipping" or "sliding"...

Last time I was at VW I did have the guys scan (for another issue) and he mentioned something about a stepper motor fault, could this be the culprit for this error message?

No, you have to go to a dealer for updates.

And the part number is on the stepper motor on your car which you can easily see if you get underneath it.

I've explained how the item has a date on it too and how the last letter of the part changes as it is updated.

Yes, it looks like an old one. There is a date of manufacture on the label too. Did you not look for it?

Your car is now 9 years old. You're too late for VW to do anything.

So that looks like it is original.

The dealer will sell you the latest one for your car. The letter at the end will be C or D or possibly later.

But you need to talk to your VW dealer's service department first - just make sure the dealer you go to has a Touareg trained technician [some don't].

Like I said, you need to check your car has the latest software. In some cases this has fixed the problem and there is no need for a new stepper motor at all.

I was editing my post so you may want to look at it again.

I don't think I asked what the problem is with the car.

Nor did I ask if you have 4 absolutely IDENTICAL tyres fitted to it.

You MUST have the same make, same model, same tread pattern, same size and with no more than 2mm difference in tread depth between tyres on the same axle and no more than 3mm tread depth difference between tyres on the front and rear axles.

This is VERY important and there are many cases where people have had problems that seem to be related to stepper motors only to find their tyres are the problem.

I think my tires are ok.
i have 4x general grabber 235/65/17.
They have only 1 year of wearing.

What have happen is during these morning, when i was going for work the car start to make a tac-tac-tac-tac under the knob gear-box and the dash light and knob lights, start to flash.
After these these was a malfuntion info on the MFD.
