I threw it out there cuz I was curious, I figured I'd most likely end up installing it myself but there's alot of people in area looking for work and I got quite a bit of interest but nobody with a garage, no surprise and I was open to offers but it's not worth much for me to pay someone so it's up to them if they're willing to do the job.
My car is very clean with like 66k miles, i'd expect it come off a bit easier than dirty highmileage T3s but yeah you never know, I'd rather it be me who discovers there's a problem and it takes longer to pull off. It's been a little while but I had done deletes and exhaust work in the past
600 and 800 seems high for someone assisting but if you felt that was what it was then good. I thre a number out OBO and expected estimates to come in higher but 5 people seemed very willing to do it, but thats obviously a gamble
Your average garage or mechanic either isn't going to have the skills to delete a European car or it's going to take them a few days to go slow and figure it out.

My powerstroke ended up breaking 2 or 3 EGR studs and it took roughly 2 nearly straight days to get everything going properly. That was with a lift, torch, and a 3rd hand that came in to help with the POS EGR snafu. The Cummins took roughly 14 to 16 hours to do. I don't feel like 800 is a lot of money for several business days worth of work. I'd have doubled that if he wasn't my friend and some random shop.

If I was told $800 was too much for 16 hours of work I'd tell that person politely to F#%k off and find a back street cowboy that will do it cheaper. And done right.
I agree. At $50/hr you can't beat that cost, providing they do it right and don't muck things up.

My stepson got one and we use it on our vehicles. It's refreshing to have a tool that isn't locked to one vehicle and cheaper than FZ3.
I'm sure Alientech was giving out kickbacks to Malone for selling the FZ3 even though they won't openly admit it.

Fz3 is a small portable unit is probably the only plus side but so are laptops.
Not having to deal with a laptop would be convenient as I currently run VCDS on a 10+ year old Lenovo Thinkpad with random pieces breaking off of it. VCDS has run well on a VM in the past but I’m sure there’s limitations. I’m fine for now but I’m just picturing the next time I need to rebuild it and install Win 10 again, I’d prefer to be able to use my Mac.
It’s winter here now so I likely wont mess with my car for a few months and by then I’ll install the delete kit as well. Most likely I’ll upgrade to the FZ3, seems like this will be the path forward for Tunezilla.

275 for somebody to delete your car? I would be insulted with that offer personally. Have you ever deleted a modern diesel? It's a ****load of work and it's miserable and there are almost always hiccups unless your car is pristine. Hell I had a buddy help me delete several of my own trucks and I still paid him $600 for one of them and I think 800 for the other which was a real son of a bitch because the EGR studs broke off.
Like I said, I figured it was low but I just wanted to see what response If get.

I don’t disagree and I wasn’t in a shop haggling with them over what their time was worth, I just spent 5 mins posting on craigslist saying $275 OBO hoping to start some conversation about getting the delete done.

I’d hope that anyone offended by this would
simply not respond or respond and explain why it’s a bigger job than I might be thinking of etc. I’m not into telling people what their time is worth, that’s up to them but I also wasn’t anticipating 2 full days in the shop, seems as though it’s a toss up as to whether you can bang it out in a day or two BUT you raise a good point, if I’m only giving em a few hundred and something comes up, I’d want to be able to compensate them for the additional time and also want to make sure they’re available. So this isn’t a good route, it can easily leave me in a bind. I’ll just do it myself when things warm up.
Not damaging the studs coming off the down pipe is definitely a concern but I’ll make sure si have every wobble and extension I might need to get back there Fortunately I can survive without a car for a few days if something comes up. I’m hoping to avoid any problems though which is why i’m talking about it now and not waiting to post while it’s torn apart and an emergency.

Tons of people use it on Mac.
People use it on tablets, old cheap laptops, etc.
There are no excuses.
If you want mobile, you always have the trade in option.
Yeah, I had it running solid in a VM on my mac, i just got frustrated with the Ross Tech forums and how they won’t help if you have VCDS running on a non-supported platform.
I got VCDS just after the HPFP blew out then I got the ACC and Front Assist issue and I didnt want to argue in the forums about how absurd it is that they won’t help at all if done differently than their normal process.
I’ve actually had it on a few old laptops without issue but I finally was able to just dedicate an old machine to VCDS now so I’m good there but long term it’s a thought, if I can do most everything from a FZ device , that’d be pretty sweet.

Street cowboy lolol. I lived in NYC for a while
and there was one in Times Square in his underwear and playing guitar every day. Never suspected he could work on VWs too

This is fake news. Please don't spread lies. RT forums will almost always help troubleshoot your codes as long as you don't have pirated dongles, or aren't registered. They won't troubleshoot your install on unsupported platforms but that's not what you're claiming.

Not fake at all, they regularly stated they won’t help troubleshoot if not running on a supported platform, specifically a Windows PC with certain requirements they provide.

This was quite common when I got my cable in late 2019. You’ve never seen this on their forums? Uwe was the best at checking some
of the other admins but more likely than not, if you posted asking for help and your VCDS scan said VMware OR your dongle was hacked, they would tell you they were not helping because of it, the issue was easily resolved by meeting their requirements which is what I did. I saw this as a way to “encourage “ users to meet their specs. Messages about this are probably still on their forums if you question it. They lessened up a bit but they were absolutely not helping a large segment of new users.

I’m not saying this to trash RT, they’re great and I understand why they want their customers to be setup a specific way. I’m not sure I’ve seen this kind of support and troubleshooting for free to the general public anywhere else but yeah, I saw them request users setup their VCDS a certain way before getting into troubleshooting.

There's no way for people to even tell if you're running VCDS in a VM, and as long as it can connect to the cable, it isn't relevant for any questions you might have.
Agreed. Bold for emphasis.

Nah, incorrect, love all the conjecture. Should I use 16 point? Perhaps it’s changed just in the past year, if so, show me if you’re interested in learning what’s correct.
Post a scan showing this if so cuz what I have still lists the host OS, if you don’t modify your VCDS scan output then it’s printed on the second line of your scan.
I haven’t run a scan in over a year but when I search for an example, it’s still there.
To me that looks like it shows what OS you’re on pretty clearly. Feel free to find examples and on RT, god speed.

When I ran it in VMBox, it would put VMBox instead of the OS when’re it normally says Windows 7 or Windows 10:
