Maybe someone can help out.....

I have a Touareg 2005 V6 with 107,000 miles. Owned it since 30,000. Always serviced at VW main dealer without regard to cost. 5k oils 40k and 80k full service etc. coils done a couple years ago. Always used premium gas. I do not and have not had check engine light come on. Last time was when it misfired and they replaced the coils. No check engine light for 2-3 years. Its runs and drives excellent except.......

On Highways at say 60-70 mph trying to maintain a constant speed the engine will splutter. If I slow it will go away, if I give it a little gas it will go away. But, If I want to hold it and maintain the speed, almost coasting, the engine will shudder, splutter like a misfire or its is running rough. The only other time I notice a similar behavior is when I get on the highway ramp and pick up speed revs at 3500 - 4000 the engine will again splutter and misfire but it will still pick up speed and get going.....but not always will the engine do this.

Any Ideas?

Is engine light flashing at all when this happens? Could be a bad plug or maybe time for an injector flush. Have the ECM scanned, there may be a "sporadic fault" stored that could lead you in the right direction. Would be interesting to monitor each cylinder while your driving with a scan tool also.

Could be the fuel pumps. Mine did something similar. Does it feel as if the pedal goes away?

No flashing engine lights or any other warning lights at all, no weird pedal feel. I did run some seafoam through the tank but no change. Will scan next time i'm in for oil change.

Fuel or spark. Check fuel pressure, replace filters and check all coil packs.

Ok Thx I will check on those items, However I was told by my VW dealer that there is no replaceable fuel filters on the V6. Fuel pump is located in the tank and not serviceable. Is that correct?

I was told this as well about the fuel filters on the V6 and was told if it was bad the pump needed to be replaced. That could be your issue and there are a few threads about that as well as DIY threads if you chose to do so. Get it scanned first though before throwing money at it for parts.
