Make a sound recording

Check the battery cables and starter cables for loose connections or wear. Also check the grounding points.

Check starter wire at positive terminal in battery box for connection/damage to wire

 

I tried to upload a sound record but its not going.I just dont understand how a mechanic cant find the problem.We had it on computer four times but it showes nothing special.Just a code P00455 for a leak and the code P00446.But when we started the engine again all codes were gone.Today at the morning the engine started with no problems like its all ok.But after few hours it made again the loud noice like the starter stucking somewhere at than it make nothing at all when i am turning the key like he is not getting any power.After a few times of trying he started again.its just make me crazy i alredy spend a 1000 € on it.

 

I have an apointment at vw servis.They will check it with the computer but i dont think they will find something i didnt heard allready.Someone sad it is the flywheel and something in the steerig wheel that cost 2000€.I dont know.I dont belive.Seems like my car cant be fixed.Not in Slowenia

Could be something as simple as the ignition switch. When the car started sounded pretty normal. Maybe the switch has a short?

 

It *does* sound like a starter issue, but if it WAS a starter issue, I think there would be more grinding if it really was cutting out and trying to re-engage the starter motor.

I don't know enough about diesels to help out any further. Sorry.

 

It's like the starter motor has a dead spot due to bad windings. Sometimes it looks like the starter motor is putting a dead short on the electrical system.

 

Is that a 5 year old battery?

 

No it is a new battey.And the woltage is always 12 or more.

 

Actually a new fully charged battery should be 12.9 or MORE.

A 12.5 Volt battery is degraded.

What amperage you get (not the CCA).

As mentioned, check cabling and grounds.

The battery meter on the dashboard should read just over 14 volts when the engine is running. The Touareg is very sensitive to low voltage and anything less than 14V can throw up faults.

 

When the engine is running the battery meter is always just over 14V and when its off its 12V or even more if i turned the engine off from a wile ago.

 

Hopefully i will know at the end of the week what is wrong because i talked with the seller and i am driving it back and they promised me to fix it.Hope they find the problem.I will let you know.Thank you

 

I had a similar problem with my 2013 Touareg TDI. Sometimes it would start, other times not. Also a lot of noise sometimes.

I took the car to the VW service after I charged the battery, and then removed the battery and took it to AutoZone who tested it twice saying it was OK.

The VW dealer said the battery was OK. Problem: Bad armature in the starter. The starter was replaced and the problem was resolved.

I got a real left field idea that it could be.

This is an idea only.

Crank position sensor. Seems like the engine goes to start and then the ecu freaks out coz it has no idea what poition its in TDC or BDC etc.

But this is a lil ways off. Got a feeling its not the battery. Maybe starter but its very weird.

God it doesnt sound healthy on start up.

Waiting eagerly on the results of the shop!

THAY SAY THE ENGINE NOZZLES HAVE A LEAK!
