We have the 2021 V8 Wolfsburg Touareg and had a problem for a week. I couldn't turn the car off. Just started a caravan trip and drove into town with caravan in-tow to a Doctors appointment for my wife. Dropped her off and drove down the street to park. The Start button was stuck and the car would not turn off. Some gently wriggling and five attempts all failed. Then realised if it did turn off, it might not start again. Left it running, called local dealer and of course it started and stopped on each attempt by them. Sigh. Error on the screen though to check starter. For a week, the button was firmly stuck, but the car would start in 1-3 attempts, and turn off in 1-3 attempts. Then suddenly it freed up and it is back to normal. Error on screen gone. Serviced today and no errors or problems found. Mmmmm. It had me pondering. Can this Touareg be started and stopped without the start button? I forgot to ask the dealer. There is no where to put a key fob like earlier models I had.

What does Your owners manual say?

From what you wrote it seems the vehicle can only be started/stopped using that button. As mentioned check your owners manual or ring the local dealer and ask.
My suggestion would be that if it happens again, get a video of the button being stuck along with the error shown on the screen and present that to the local dealer. At least you can show them what it is, or is not, doing.

Agronomy,, I don't know if you ever found out about your start button, but I can tell you that the only way to stop the earlier r/line v8 diesel is by pulling a relay from the under bonnet (plenum) group. If you ever found out why your engine wouldn't stop please, post what you replaced, because I have an engine that keeps running and so far 2 VW mechs. don't know why. ACC unavailable shows when engine stop button pushed.
