More often than not my front lower pass. door speaker sounds like the voice coil has blown and rattles.
Naturally when I brought it to the dealer it was just fine.

It will sound blown for days and then it's cool for a while....sounds fine.

But always comes back. Real pain in the butt.

Have the upgrade Sound 2 with Nav. Anyone else experience this, also is there a sub woofer somewhere?
Thanks.
Great site.

I told my dealer about a blown speaker in my '04 --- he ordered it and replaced it without any issue.

You may have an amplifier issue though. Have they checked that out?

Said only sub woofer had a TSB with the amp.
You would think they could at least ohm out the speaker for me...Nope. Had to be happening on the spot or no looking into it.

Don't even know where the sub is...

speaker noise passesnger size

yeah, my lower passenger side speaker makes a pop noise at times and then at other times it does not. I don't understand the discrepancy. When I try to replicate it for the dealer, it never does.

Same problem here. I'd think if the speaker were blown from being over-driven, it would sound it all the time. Maybe the crappy factory amp has something to do with it...

just found the board. GREAT site. i've had this problem for a while and took it to the dealer yesterday. i even took a portable cd player to compare and he said he couldnt tell the difference. i looked at him like he had three eyes. we took the cd to another treg on the lot and the same thing happened, but not as bad. his conclusion...it must be the cd.

i had a golf tdi before the treg and the service was fantastic. the treg? the service sucks.

They are finally replacing my speaker... :evil_laugh: if it acts up again I guess it's the amp.
Should have it back tomorrow or next day. Having a hitch installed delayed getting it back.
I'll keep you posted.
Really love the EGG. Hope they get it right.

Speaker Sounds Blown

I have the same problem with a strange background noise in one of my passenger door speakers. I always thought it was the lower door speaker. I was able to find a song on CD that would reproduce this noise on demand, and discovered the noise is actually coming from the small speaker in front of the door handle of the passenger side door. I am going to have the dealer replace that speaker, and am bringing that CD with me to show them exactly where the problem is.

Speaker Sounds Blown, Sometimes

Yep, mine has it to. The front left tweeter mounted in the mirror housing. Sometimes sounds like its coming from the lower down mount.

However, I have been running an experiment on the Monsoon system. About 2.5 weeks ago it was quite bad one day. I suddenly started thinking about a system reset by turing the car/stereo off. That seemed to do the trick for about a day. Then I thought about the interaction between the audio adjust on the headunit and the audio adjust buttons in the steering wheel. There is potential for a distortion feed back between the head unit pot and the amplifier. IN theory there should be less potential for feedback between the steering wheel buttons and the headunit since it could be a digital input.

I have not used the knob on the headunit to adjust volume in the past 2 weeks. It is only used for on/off. All volume control has been via steering wheel, I have not heard any speaker distortion since.

Since I've posted this, I am sure tomorrow it will return on cue.... :giggle:

If not, I will continue the experiment and post if it returns.

i've been trying this (adjusting the volume by only using the steering column adjust) for the past couple days, jtb, and the results look promising. i wont get too excited until i've been distortion free for at least two weeks, but i'll let y'all know if this works (at least in my case).

thanks for the feedback, jtb.

Speaker Blown/ Sometimes

I have had my Touareg at the shop 5 times for the speakers (late 04' V8 w/ upgraded sound system). I also thought the speakers in the door were blown and then when I bring it to the dealership the problem doesn't happen. When I bring it in, the speakers sound totally blown (in the door/dash) and then when they test it right in front of me they sound fine. Then after I pull out and drive for 10 minutes the "blown" sound comes right back? I think it's an amp problem. I'm just aggervated because I purchaed the upgraded sound system and it still sounds like crap!

Well, Its been over three weeks

and I have not had any issues since I abandoned the use of the knob on headunit for volume control.

Still to early to infer there may be something here statistically or simply a case of good luck.

Will advise again....

speaker pops

i have had the same issue with my radio since day one. i have had the radio and the amp replaced. the popping sound still happens. also the radio used to dispaly station call letters and song titles which the dealer can not fix. depsite the wind noise at high speeds and the constant squeaking of the brakes, i still like my vw.. maybe the next model will be better..

Any updates on this issue?

Having a similar problem with my recently purchased 04 Touareg. Using the fader and balance controls, the problem is definitely isolated to the front left speakers. The dealer went ahead and replaced the big speaker in the front left driver's side door. They say it sounds better, but it doesn't really sound any better to me (it still buzzes/rattles and has lower fidelity). They also checked 2 other 04 Touaregs on their lot and said they sounded the same as mine. They are basically saying this is common to all 04 Touaregs, and there is nothing more they can do. Can anyone confirm or dispute this? Thanks.

I have an 04 and mine sounds fine so far. But I also have a later VIN model to. It may have been resolved in the later VIN's or it was fixed before I bought it.

Update - it was the midrange speaker near the door handle. The buzzing got worse. At first I could hear it only on talk radio, but then I started hearing it with music too. Kept asking the dealer, and they finally replaced the midrange speaker under warranty. They too said they could not duplicate the problem, but they also admitted that their mechanics are not audiophiles. Anyway, the buzzing is gone now.

here is all of you peoples answer, i took it to the deal multiple time and they could not replicate the issue. finally i went back one time and they could hear the blown speaker. the did some tests and the speak/sound system was fine. they said the 4 bottom speakers were a special type of sub, that it was a version of sub that was very thin and that when they were played to the max that the speaker itself was vibrating so much that it would bounds off of the plastic part of the door. basically we are all screwed in this matter

this is probably a little offtopic but i have owned 2 touareg now v6 and v8 now. both if them have the same issues that to me it seems that those speakers in the rear cabin are really quiet, even when the fader is to the "R"

my dealer said that all four door speakers are mini subs, thats why they vibrate against the door and make the sound of a blown speaker. unless anyone can make anoter speaker that is as skinny as the ones in there and actually make it fit, then we r all screwed.
