Spare tire Air fill hose

So classically my used TDi did not come with an air fill/compressor hose for filling the spare. Of course it's 320 bucks from VW. Has anyone put one together themselves? I just can bring myself to buying an air compressor hose for that price whether or not it has a pressure gauge in it or not. Looks like the compressor connection should be a schrader valve thread or clamp on...

My '04 is missing the hose too. I had thought of asking VW how much $$ but eeeK! I've got a spare 25' hose so I'll just pick up a clamp on fitting and roll my own. :D

Thanks V10! :) I already have the separate compressor - this is just a backup. Feel sorry for my poor wife - I carry 3 ways to make fire, 2 ways to make fresh water, paracord, tarps, fish hooks, string, slingshot, tools, blah blah blah... every time we get off the beaten path. If it's important enough to carry I try to make sure I have a backup. Easier in the Touareg than when I'm hiking! :D

It's not that I don't trust the Touareg, it's just that I've owned VW's for 33 years and I know it pays to be prepared. :)

Outside air pumped into the air suspension system is subject to moisture taken in from humidity etc,if the dessicant in the filter is not effective to remove that moisture by being used to inflate rafts, etc ,the internal parts wiil corrode and moisture will freeze in winter causing other problems, Marty

Thank you Marty.

Now you got me slightly concerned. I recently used my Touareg's air suspension to pump some air into my son's bike tire. You mention the desiccant in the filter removes the moisture. Is this a serviceable item, and how would one know if it is functioning properly?

I personally wouldn't worry about blowing up a bike tyre or even two or three!

Was the weather warm and sunny, or raining cats and dogs when you did this heinous deed?

That might just make a very, very, very slight difference given the volume of air that goes into a bike tyre!

The air in the pressure system has to be
dehumidified so that no problems with:
â—Ź Corrosion and
â—Ź Freezing
due to condensation occur.
An air dryer is used for dehumidification.
The air dryer operates using a regenerative
process, or in other words:
The compressed air in the self-levelling control
system passes through the silicate granulate and
is dried in the process.
The air dryer
This granulate can, depending on the
temperature, absorb more than 20% of its own
weight in moisture. If the dried air is discharged
(during lowering), this air flows back through the
granulate on its way out into the open, and in
doing so draws the moisture out of the granulate
that was temporarily stored there.
Due to this regenerative process, the air dryer
requires no maintenance. There is no changing
interval.Marty

It takes a while to fill the space saver spare.

Be careful you do not overload the cigarette lighter socket or the air pump whilst inflating the spare.

This is the reason the standard VW electric air pump connects to the alternative battery terminals under the bonnet.

That was awesome! Thank you!
