I am interested to know if this is part of the normal service . For example I just took my car for a service, I said that the radio was not correctly installed, and could they check. I believed the radio was not installed correctly because the fader control was not available. On picking up my vehicle I was told no fader control on the RNS 510 installed in my vehicle.

Long story short I recieved my Ross Tech VCDS the next day, ran a scan and found all the faults ! I fixed the radio and now have Fader.

Point is if the dealer had done a scan they would have found the fault and fixed, also any faults that had occured should be looked at !

Would anyone know if the scan is part of VW normal service practise? I would think it should be !

I take my Touareg to an independent garage that specializes in Porsches and VWs for my routine service, and he scans the truck every visit and goes over the results with me. It is to their benefit, as some of the faults may require further work in the shop.

This makes perfect sense to me, I would think that it would make sense to VW, or any dealer ! My car is still under warranty so there is money in it for the dealer to fix any issue !

Here's the service schedule printed from ElsaWin for my Treg's 105,000km service, which is just an oil service. Point No.4 on the list says Vehicle System Test: Perform Test. Also attached is a print from ElsaWin, detailing what this test entails.

I've done the 150k, 165k and 180k services on the Jetta, and the 105k service on the Treg myself, and all of them show exactly the same thing.

So to answer your question, yes... The dealer is supposed to do a full scan every time you take the car for regular services.

Over here, the dealers generally do indeed say they perform the scan, but I've never seen a printout of it. They also don't charge for doing the scan, although it is normally reflected on the invoice.

Confronted the dealer today and asked if it is normal practise to do a scan. They said it was. Pointed out that this was not done at last service, and faults were missed. I also pointed out that my car had rear speakers so the comment on the invoice about no balance was B.S. By the way the invoice is in the Australian Forum http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=9070&d=1273796970

What kind of an idiot would think that an R50 would come without rear speakers???? And then on top of that, have the audacity to put it on an invoice???

Its things like this that made me decide NEVER to take a car to a dealer EVER again... :anger:

I wouldn't be surprised if that guy told you an R50 is an R5 with a body kit... You'd better check the oil level. An R5 takes less oil than a V10.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now... ;)

Well if you notice they did forget to charge me for 10 litres of the oil, oil is normally $270.00 odd dollars.

And people wonder why VW owners get frustrated with VW dealerships....
