My touareg is about a month old, and just the other day I noticed quite a few scratches which appear to start right about the middle of each wiper blade and run the route up to the edge of the windshield. Anyone else noticed this? What's the best way to get rid of it.

I have the same problem. I just had the egg detailed and I think they used a spray wax so the windshield is greasy/clouded and all the scratches now show-up. Any suggestions of a serious glass cleaner that can clean the wax off and minimize the scratches?

Believe it or not I just talked with someone at my dealership, and they told me their detail center uses brillo pads (the very very very fine steel wool kind) and buff the scratches out of the glass that way. I'm pretty skeptical on this, I would think it would cause more harm than good.

No,some times a clay bar works wonders if you have surface gunk on it,I believe someone said cleanser would work well,or alcohol would remove all wax.

We used to own the Trico Wiper co. They always recomended the Bon Ami cleanser.

Update to my scratches. I brought my touareg in for an oil change at 3k miles ( i know not necessary, I'm just paranoid about that stuff LOL). I mentioned the scratches to my service manager, who promptly replied "well if you can feel the grooves with your fingernail then you're gonna need a new windshield". To my surprise I got a phone call around 4pm that afternoon saying that VW was going to pay for a new OEM windshild due to the scratches. I just picked up the touareg last nite, with a brand new windshield and no scratches! +1 for VW in my book! :)

FWIW; in the future if the dealer doesn't do it for you and you have comprehensive insurance, in most cases a new windshield is covered. I've called my insurance company in the past complaining that the windshield was so pitted I couldn't see well in direct, head-on sunshine. They replaced it at no cost to me, not even a deductible.

edit: BTW- The fine steel wool trick is one I've heard many auto detailers use and is quite effective, provided the aforementioned streaking is not actually a scratch or gouge in the glass.
