I have felt "S"port mode in other cars, most recently my G8GT where the 6-speed auto (C6 Corvette) would downshift sooner, rev longer and hold the gear in corners depending on so many variables but otherwise, for the most part, in anything other than WOT there really wasn't too much of a difference.
Now, with this TDI 8-speed, the difference between D and S is dramatic but I love the difference. D is my everyday mode, of course. If I want to feather the throttle to get as many MPG's as I can, great. When I'm in a hurry or feel sporting, when I put it in S-mode the truck totally wakes up. The engine is always in the powerband and the transmission and the responsiveness is just right there, it is like a gas motor, no lag and no fuss.
S=Beast Mode for unleashing or harnessing the 400 ft lbs of MONSTER TORQUE!
