I have a 2012 Touareg factory ordered and wanted to get the dealer installed running boards and mud guards. Apparently, I can't install front mud guards if there are running boards installed and i can't understand why. I have not seen a good picture of the running boards which might explain why. According to the dealer, installling the running boards will not stop mud/rocks coming up fron the front tires as the running boards do not provide the same protection as mud guards. HA nyonw managed to install both on a 2011 or 2012?

I have mud guards installed front and rear and the front mud guards do not protect the rocker panel very well. I was considering installing running boards in the hopes of getting the extra protection plus have the benefit of running boards as well.

Running Boards & Mud Flaps

After questioning the dealer, they called VW tech support and were told that there are no issues with installing the factory mud flaps and the running boards. The issue was with the Tijuan and there was an incorrect bulletin released that noted both the Tijuan and the Touareg had issues with this. I ended up getting the dealer to install both. They painted the running boards black ot match the vehicle and it looks fantastic. The parts guy at the dealerhship that they normally install the running boards without painting them and just leave them grey. He said after this result that he will always paint the running boards to match the body paint colour.

I've been looking for stainless steel or polished tube style boards for my 2012 Touareg, but so far, have not had any success. I don't like the way the grey looks on my blue vehicle, but had not considered painting the factory tubes black before install. Do you have any pictures you could share?

VW says you can't, but You CAN install both HOWEVER....

you need to circumcise the front of the tube by 1.5 inches to allow clearance of the front mud flaps. Remove front end cap, saw off 1.5 inches, refit end cap and voila.

I did it on my 08 V6 with EFX/Buffalo steps. For the V8 I couldn't be bothered and just installed rear mud flaps and EFX/Buffalo tubes.

What about the jack to raise the vehicle? Will THAT work+fit under the vehicle once you install the OEM running boards? I found out the hard way that it won't fit, as I was attempting to install my winter tires in my driveway over the weekend .

Nope, which is why I carry a mini-jack in the car at all times and use the cross member as jack points. Anything else and you will crush whatever your using as a support point.

Can you post a picture or two please? I am wanting to do this, but have never seen one on a 2011/12 yet.

I have attached 4 pictures and hopefully they come through OK. I just put my snow tires on so I have the 18" rims instead of the 20" rims. Also, I had to buy an extended jack in order to get to the load points because of the running boards.
