Hi,

I am wondering what is the rooftop stationary” weight limit of the 7L?

So far I found that the “dynamic” weight capacity is 100kg…

They're not rated for a stationary weight, only dynamic weight. What do you want to put on it? Generally, with roof tents it isn't a concern- if the dynamic rating of your vehicle and rack system are enough to support the tent empty, you'll have plenty of strength to load it up to sleeping capacity. My family of 3 plus our dog sleep on the roof of our '09 with no issues. However, I don't think the roof is strong enough to stack multiple Touaregs for storage :ROFLMAO:

The OEM bars are what I have- plenty strong but they stick up much higher than I’d like. You need more than load bars, it’s the height of the towers that is the issue.

How many people are you planning to sleep? I have a full sized iKamper skycamp which has tons of room for my family and 1min setup, but if it was just 2 people I’d look at a lighter weight model like this 76lb one Standard Lightweight Rooftop Tent - Inspired Overland

Hard shells are the only way to go- I started out with a soft shell tent and they’re a lot more work to setup, a lot more wind drag, and not as good in wind and rain.

I saw your treg in the other thread, you are using the oem roof side rails and then aftermarket crossbars right?
I have the two moving oem aeroblades…
Do you know if they are suitable for roof tent because they seem a bit curved?

7L T2 rails are definitely solid aluminum… it’s really the most sturdy factory rack system I’ve ever seen. I’m continually impressed by the quality and expense of little details on my T2 but have no experience with the T3 models to see if they are built as well.

Over on Expedition Portal they warned me never to trust the stock rack with a RTT offroad, but I’m not worried- the rack is at least 10x as strong as factory racks I’ve seen on most SUVs.
