Well, I have had the treg since November 2008 (2004 V8 with all options and now 51k on the clock), and we're about to leave on its first official road trip! We're leaving Washington state for Colorado for a week: Heading thru Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and CO.

I've been massively busy with mods for this trip:
1. trailer hitch install for full size spare carrier (and the eventual boat..:))
2. New Brakes from Alretta Truck Parts all around
3. New serpentine belt
4. Brake fluid flush
5. Rotated tires
6. Replaced Bi-Xenon lamps
7. enabled "6-light Salute!"
8. replaced cabin filter
9. replaced both engine air filters
10. Replaced all wipers (now I have spares if they fly off like on another thread here...)

I cant think of any other maintenance items or parts to check and resolve before a long trip: took it to the dealer last week to have a courtesy inspection done after the work and it passed everything, including coolant tests.

Can anybody give wise pieces of advice for the trip? I have done many trips before but not in a sweet SUV like this!

Very interested to hear experiences on what failed on you during a trip.

Might as well buy some fuel injector cleaner for the road trip, test out the Air Conditioning. You can do a stress test on the Alternator, by running all accessories (heated seats, max fan on heat/cool, defrost). If that is good, then you should be fine. Sounds like you've already got your bases covered.

Play with your suspension settings. You should be able to notice the difference between Comfort, Auto, and Sport on curvy mountain roads. Sweet. You might even find some low elevation trails to check out the suspension height settings.

I think you are in for a treat.

Come back to Colo for the Touaeg Rally in late July or August (date not set yet....C'mon Chris) and we will show you what she can really do.

Have a great trip.
