RNS850 or RCD550?

I have a 2012 Touareg Deluxe. How do I tell which radio I have? I have the build sheet which doesn't mention 850 or 550. I pulled the unit out of the dash and checked the part number but doesn't show if it is 850 or 550.

Really would like to replace the head unit and add a sub. Don't mind running new power and speaker cables. I have seen the boxes for screen mirroring but that won't improve sound quality.

@vwztips -- Look in the glovebox: if you find the MMI3GP main unit mounted there, you have RNS850. Also indicated on the vehicle inforrmation label as PR-8AY (in the 6th column):

The Touareg RNS850 and the Audi MMI 3GP is basically the same thing: the actual head unit is located in the glovebox and what you see in the center console is just the display.

While no expert (like many on this forum I also use the Kremersino K-Smart box that adds Android Auto and Apple Carplay to the RNS850 and it works very well while retaining stock look and functionality) I believe all options for further upgrade come from China and none are exactly cheap.

This is one option: you keep the glovebox unit and just replace the touchscreen, which gives better performance plus AA/Carplay, integrated Android box functionality, and retains all the existing integration with the car.

This is another setup - an Android 13-based screen but not clear how it integrates with the MMI 3GP unit in the glovebox but I assume it's the same idea: just replace the display and keep the RNS850 "brain" - the reviews indicate that's the case: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006610165120.html
Thanks for the reply! That would be nice. Was really hoping for something with RCA outs. Perfectly fine getting rid of all the junk in the glovebox.

Has anyone bought one of these head units?

Have messaged seller and it is a plug and play which supposedly retains factory functions plus provides RCA out for amp and subwoofer.

Even the factory head unit is made by Alpine, the sound quality is awful even after replacing factory speakers with Focal ones
