Anyone know how to get the new rns 850 to play a movie while driving?

Congrats! The V8 is lovely. I think the V8 engine is entertainment enough. No need for a movie. Just drive the car instead! :)

Seems to indicate that Movies on the Go is a coding issue ? Does anyone know the VAG COM codes ?

i dont think anyone has successfully recoded to get video to play on the go Bails. Its been tackled via hardware override, which basically removes the speed sensing signal going to the unit.

Video doesn't work on an SD card when moving...just tried today w/ a video format. Soon as you move, it stops playing video w/the warning (it still played the underlying sound track).

And we don't have the same buttons on the right side of our Info Center noted in the video above (Tone, etc.). And if we hit the Voice button, it goes into Voice Command mode.

Wonder if there's a work around like for the '11's.

Yes, full playlist ala folder system w/ a back-up arrow to move back up the order. In essence, I don't see any realy reason to have an iPod/Phone in the glove box full time, so long as you can get all your stuff (including movies, mind you) on the SD cards. I think I'd rather subject a cheaper SD card to the cold/heat.

Now it does take a couple minutes for the Media to boot up etc same as the rest of the Nav stuff really, except for Radio/Sirius which must be prioritized within the sequence. But once it's up, it's actually pretty fast to forward around.

Nice touch, the album art shows up on the Nav screen along w/ artist/song, etc. I've always dug Roger Waters "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" cover :)

Thats interesting to hear about the album art. I have a 30 gig ipod hooked up, it works well but I get no album art, just a music symbol where it looks like the album art would go. How did you load the album artwork on the memory card?

burnsy,
I just grabbed/dropped my tunes off my HD (from my iTunes directory) onto the SD. Nothing special. I'll look to hook-up an iPod this week, too...see if it's the same as yours (no art). But we're getting an ice/snow/sleet storm so I'm not sure if when I'll be in the Egg again. I don't mind snow...but we've got 1/2" of ice already and I'm not too keen to expose my new ride to it and other drivers out there. And my garage is not heated :p

Ok, I grabbed some crummy shots w/ my blackberry, but you get the gist. Too many helpful folks on here to leave hanging all week...

No album art w/ the iPod/Nano as burnsy was seeing..but art w/the SD card. The Nano definitely has/shows album art when playing outside the TReg:

One more reason to leave the iPod out of the glove box (until this gets figured out).

The sound coming from both my iPhone & iPod is absolutely horrible. Very tinny with very little low end. The sound from the sat radio or AM/FM is much better.

I look forward to putting some music on an SD card this weekend, thanks for the heads up!

Over in my "Reviews" thread, barrk also had sound complaints w/ iPod...but he's got a Highline, which I assume means Exec version for Canada and thus the upgraded Dynaudio sound system? I'd hate to think of paying up for Dyn and getting crap sound out of an iPod...doesn't make sense (financial or otherwise!).

To me, i think the iPod/iPhone are fairly consistently "good" w/ the base sound system found on the Sport/Lux versions. Most of my rips were 192kb.

Wondering if the iPod complaints on sound have more to do w/ the iPod's Settings/EQ or some other setting vs. the connection/wiring for it?

I'm also real curious why the iPod album art won't show but same song/data on an SD card has it showing.

I grabbed a 32gb SDHC at MicroCenter. They had a slower (but probably plenty fast for music) for $50 or this Class 10 I got for $55:

Micro Center - Micro Center Extreme Speed 32GB Class 10 Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Flash Media Card 018267

No real experience w/ SD cards movies, etc. So not sure if paying $20 or more for "name" brands would be worth it ultimately. I'll leave this one in the car until it dies. Will keep you all posted if it craps out "early" but I'm not thinking it will.

There are plenty of 64gb SDHC out there too...but I figured I'd go 32gb x 2 if I needed more space...or even 32gb x 64gb if I need a lot of storage down the road.

I've only ripped about 1/2 my CD collection...and it's been a couple of years since I did that first half...hehe.

I don't know if it'll take SDXC, which is also out there...and may be what all the 64gb are.
