I recently was reading Consumer Reports Used Car Reviews. On the subject of reliability, broken down into different areas of the vehicle itself. The 2012-2013 Touareg, had problems in the fuel system dept. The reason I'm asking, is that I'd like to trade in my '08 eventually. Any thoughts?

Look up HPFP failures and see if you'd like a car that might experience this, and then check out SWS - Steering Wheel Shakes.

In other words they really don't have any trouble spots and are very reliable. The only exception is some people are having problems with the high pressure fuel pump (an industry wide problem plaguing every diesel in north america...has to do with poor fuel quality in NAR) and some have a shake a 70-73 MPH which goes away above or below that.

Gas versions use a different system so no, the fuel pressure pump problem doesn't exist on those.

The 2011+ generation is light years ahead of the 04-10 versions...I had 4 of the previous gen so I'm well aware of the issues they had.

Oh!!! not too happy with VW's I have had many throughout my driving years and I never had problems with them.

My 2014 Touareg run like a charm and the power you get when you step on the pedal especially in the sports mode. Passing is a charm and doesn't take long to get to 95 MPH on the highway. Loving my trip in the states for the last two months with it. You could almost say it drives by it's self.
Sorry to hear your frustrations with VW.
