I am starting to want to replace the stereo/cd player in my '04 but when I mentioned it to my dealer service tech., he said it could cause their diagnostics tools to miss something and it then would not be covered under the warranty. Is there any truth to this? It sounds like he's blowing smoke up my a:censored: .

I can't see how replacing the stereo would/could invalidate any of the warranty. If not, any suggestions out there for what to replace it with (what fits easilyand/or just sounds great) and where to get it installed in NOVA (northern virginia, a DC 'burb)? Thanks.

BTW, I have found some good customizable items on this website, including heat shields and headlight protectors: http://www.autosportcatalog.com/

The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act I believe would cover you if you wanted to put in an aftermarket system

Your dealer is handing you a line of crap.

There were some posts either here or on vwvortex that stated that the can-bus signal for some functions was routed through the head unit, and that replacing the head unit with an after-market version would then make these functions unavailable.

But, there have also been several posts about folks who did replace the headunit with after-market, and have had no issues.

Just a heads up, and maybe someone else who remembers those posts can confirm/deny what was stated.
