Replacing an aftermarket stereo.

I want to replace the aftermarket stereo that had been installed on my 2008 Touareg prior to me acquiring the vehicle. I have heard the VW removal tools won't work on an aftermarket stereo. I'm including a picture of my current stereo. I'm thinking on buying the new one from Crutchfield as they also sell a kit with the wiring adaptors and other things needed for the installation.

I searched around and founds lots of threads on removing the OEM unit and just the one in the link below on removing an aftermarket unit. I thought post #4 was interesting.
I also noticed a warning on the Crutchfield page about the install kit they give you to install that Jensen unit. See pic below. Seems like once the aftermarket unit goes in it's a PITA to get it out.

I have successfully replace that cheap aftermarket with a Jensen. I also now have my steering wheel controls back where as with the old aftermarket they didn't work. The hardest part of the install was routing the microphone for the bluetooth as well as the USB wires. I wasn't going to run the USB wires but if there is a firmware update on the stereo I'll need to be able to connect a usb drive. The only question I have is on a 2008 base model are the only steering wheel controls for the volume?

The stereo looks good, nice clean install.
As far as the steering wheel buttons I'm not 100% sure but I thought the base model only had volume buttons.
