I replaced the pair - matching black plastic and clear lenses looks so much better and they were just a few quid [15US$ each] from the VW dealer.

They come complete with normal bulbs.

 

What LED lights were you considering for your Treg..? I just recently picked up a '12 and would like to do some subtle modifications, something like led license plate bulbs would be a nice touch as I am looking to do LED fogs as well soon. I just keep getting discouraged with the bad reviews that they burn out quick from over heating or flickering because of that. Last thing I need is to get pulled over for faulty plate bulbs...

I also used DeAutoKey for their full set of LEDs. They are incredibly bright white, just about to the point of blinding at first! Just don't order the rear backup LEDs, they say they fit and they don't. Also pick up an extra SMD T10 for the center console.

The rear license plate bulbs are greatly improved from the stock ones.

Buy these, direct fit. It's what I use, and they're very bright.

 

I purchased a set of OEM LED module ones from a guy on the board a while ago. I was pretty happy with them think I paid $50 for the 2.
I have used the cheaper ones too on my other vehicles and they seem to work pretty good also.

 

Did you need to do any coding?

 

If this was meant for me no - no faults appeared after installing the VW/Audi factory led license plate modules.

 

for $7 I got two white LED strips, wired it right to the license plate bulb holder, and the other strip is under the hood to that bulb holder. Exponentially more light. For cheap. Straight from amazon. No MFD bulb out display either.

 

Euro Skank how did you wire a single strip without error codes?

 

I fully expected to need to wire resistors inline. But it just didn't throw a code for either the under hood or the license plate strip.

The brake lights and rear lights were another story......

I have a error due to one plate light being out. I need to replace the housing since it's corroded away.

 

Heads up on the LED license plate lights, they do trigger a bulb out. I made sure to pick up the Canbus compliant lights and have cleared the fault with Vcds a few times and I thought this last clear would work. Nope just triggered turning in the car. :/
