If you want to remove the entire console, it is very involved process. I did it and use the eBahn download repair manual for the touareg as a guide. If you just want to get in the area around the shifter console , read this DIY and you should be good to go.

Fyi, i removed the entire center console and i did not disconnect the battery and the repair manual did not instruct me to do so. Other than that, that DIY link is a very good guide.

Yea I'm gonna try it plus I want to intall my computer mouse there so I would have had to remove it anyway.

Its gonna add MP3 ability along with Navigation video internet radio etc... I plan on keeping my factory radio and connecting the mac to it. I'm gonna add a 7'' touch screen in the compass area.
