I've researched this extensively and seems like I have somewhat of a unique issue with my Soft-close mechanism on my 2006 V8. Rear hatch will open and close fine, just does not snug in closed as the Soft-close mechanism is non-functional. Glass hatch opens and closes fine. What's interesting is the rear luggage lights will work with the Glass hatch, but not the Tailgate. MFI screen has the Tailgate warning on all the time, Glass hatch warning works properly open and closed. Just prior to total failure, the Soft-close mechanism would cycle closed 2-3 seconds after opening the hatch. I also have an intermittent Brake Light warning. I've got the following codes from VCDS-Lite, which I can imagine are probably related:
00896 - Trunk Lock Unit (F256)
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
01503 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
009 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
(This is the Third Brake Light failure code)
I can imagine that this either points to a Wiring Harness failure or a Module failure. I have looked at the wires at the hinge and all seem intact and flexible (I've dealt with wire failures on Audi Avant hinges before, dry and brittle) and I have the headliner removed for replacement so I have looked at all the wires behind there as well. Looking for some additional guidance on troubleshooting while I have the headliner out and full access to the wires. I'd rather not just start replacing stuff so any help is much appreciated, thanks!
