This is my first post but I have been reading this forum for awhile since I am considering buying a T-Reg soon. Does anyone know exactly how the all wheel drive system works? I am used to the traditional part time 4x4 systems where a locking rear can be crucial. Without the locking rear option on the T-Reg if only one of the 4 tires has any traction and it happens to be one of the rears, will all of the rear power go to the wheel with the least resistance is at would in a part-time system. I am having a hard time finding any T-Reg’s with a locking rear and I am trying to assess how important it is for off road performance. Unfortunately, all of the VW people I have spoken to haven't seemed very knowledgeable. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I read that document, which is very informative but doesn't really address what I'm asking in detail. It describes how the rear differential lock works but what if you don't have it? From the discussion on brakes, it would seem that if one of the rear wheels is slipping, brakes will be applied to that wheel so that the torque will go to the wheel with traction. Does anyone have any real world experience in mud, ice or snow in a situation like this?
