Hi there
We have just bought a 2012 Toureg. I deleted all preset channels and the screen showed "empty". I put in my own channels. Next time I got in the car to drive it had lost all my presets and defaulted back to the original channels.

Welcome @Girl Guy

Not trying to suggest you don't know what you're doing, but............ have you followed these instructions (from the user manual)

Storing stations on a displayed station button
Storing a station to a station button overwrites any station previously stored to that button.
If the station you are listening to is stored to a station button, the name of the frequency band
displayed in the RADIO main menu is followed by the station button number

241019

  • Select a frequency band and station.
  • Press the desired station preset button until a signal tone sounds.
  • The station currently playing is now stored on that station button.
All stored stations can be deleted together

there may be other more technical reasons that the stations are not being stored, but let's start with the simple stuff first ;)

Thanks. I have done everything the book says. I deleted all stored stations when we took ownership of the car. Each preset boxed showed empty. I scanned the stations and as each one came up that I wanted to store I saved it. It saved ok but when I got into drive the car next it had defaulted back to the original presets. I also manually searched for stations and saved them the same and whilst I was in the car they remained. Then next time I got in the car to drive it they had all gone too and defaulted back to original stations.

wow.
Ok, I think you're going to need some local help. Care to update your profile to show where you are from, that way (maybe) a member of the forum might be close to you and they could possibly assist.

So I just now went and deleted all presets. All channel showed "empty". I manually set 1-24 preset channels. I played each channel and all ok. I turned off the ignition for a few mins. I turned on the ignition and all my channels were still there. I came into the house for around 30 mins. I went out to the car and turned on the ignition and all 1-24 presets had defaulted back. The 25 onwards were showing "empty".

hmmm...definitely a gremlin or two in there.

Can you PLEASE complete your profile to show us where you are, that way, assistance can be provided/suggested, rather than us just sitting here throwing darts in to a fog ;)

So as I have not had any new information posted re my issue, I am currently looking into the RNS 850 navigation system. There is also an issue where once I have set up my mobile phone to use via Bluetooth and hands-free, it does not remember and I have to set it up each time I get in the car to travel. After a little research of my own, I plan on doing a factory reset to see if that helps. It would be really helpful if there were businesses out there that dealt with these in car electronic systems. I have no desire to go to VW due to the costs I am sure that will incur and frankly I never find them helpful when there is an issue outside the box so to speak. We currently own a Jetta and Amarok so deal with VW often. So if anyone out there knows of such a business in the Northern NSW region or even Gold Coast QLD would be most appreciated.

have a look at this thread. Spreadsheet for Recommended Touareg Mechanics -...

In the first post, there is a downloadable spreadsheet that is based in state order (select the state of enquiry by selecting one of the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet) and then , within each page, listed by location alphabetically.
