When I picked up my Treg this pas December I could not program the garage door opener. VW told me to call HomeLink. HomeLink instructed me to park in my driveway and put/hold my garage door transmitter so that it is between the garage and the rearview mirror/HomeLink transmitter area and then follow the instructions for programing. Programmed it on the first try. Hope this helps.

If your opener is older than 1982 or so the homelink won`t make the frequency. They say it`s cuz the old openers don`t have the safety beam across the bottom but they gotta cut off the acceptable frequencies somewhere.

Rudiepoo1,

How long have you held the 1 & 3 buttons? When I programmed my door opener for the first time I wasn't holding them long enough and thought something was wrong. Turns out it would start flashing but it took what seemed like a minute to go into the program mode.

Maybe that's the problem.....I held the buttons down for probably 20 or so seconds and was expecting the light to start blinking pretty much instantly. I'll have to give it another go with a bit more time and see how things go.

I think everyone has trouble in programming new VW garage door openers, especially if you are used to Mercedes Benz, where the receptors are reasonably close to the push buttons. In VWs, the receptor is close to the base of the mirror and the windshield, a foot away from the button. Holding your garage door opener close to the push buttons just does not work, and correct instructions should be in the owners handbook...a photo of where to hold the opener for each model would help!

Anyone run into a problem with two cars on one opener ? I had two GM trucks with Homelink set up on my garage. I replaced my Escalade with a CC and found that when I programmed the CC my Yukon no longer worked and vice versa. Same is true for the Treg. Has anyone else run into this problem ? Thanks in advance for your help. Paul.

Nope, I have one opener and my Treg and Passat both have homelink. Both work just fine. You may have another issue some where.

Appreciate the replies, I notice that both of you have two VWs, everything worked well for me when I had two GMs. I'll see if homelink can help amd will report back if I have any success. Thanks again.

I hope this isn't a dead topic - it can be frustrating!! Just want to say that TeatherWind's instructions above are dead-on (thanks teatherwind). They work well, but positioning your hand-held transmitter seems to be key too, like Grmster1 said.

I tried several times myself, rotating it this way and that way, but it finally worked when I literally put the transmitter push button up against the 3 transmitter buttons on the ceiling console. Just left enough room for me to squeeze my index finger in between there to keep the button pressed down! And it finally worked, so I was onto Step 2 of Teatherwinds instructions. My two cents anyway.

Still unable to get the homelink to work on my two vehicles, never had this problem when I had two GMs. Figured I'd repost just in case someone else had been able to resolve a similiar issue. Thanks in advance.

a2z, it is a very tricky procedure, I can tell you that for sure! I almost feel like I "stumbled" upon doing it the right way because I tried and tried and tried, using only minor variations each time - such as repositioning the hand held remote. That seemed to be the key for some reason, but I'm not sure. You would think it would "program" from a distance, since it sends out a signal, but it seems it has to be held in JUST the right position, and distance, from the buttons on your headliner. Don't know if that helps-

Thanks Frashr, I don't have any problem programming the Treg, it's that everytime I program the Treg my Yukon becomes unprogrammed and visa-versa. Never had this issue when I had two GMs, only had since I went VW (CC then Treg).

I had the same difficulties when I brought home my new-to-me 2008 V10. Only solution I stumbled upon was to program the Treg to the rolling code door opener while parked in the garage, then repeat the process with the Boxster, also while parked in the garage. Took three tries with the Porsche for the code to take.;)
