I have been trying to get my garage door opener programed to one of my HomeLink buttons in my Touareg. I have tried both of the ways the manual says to do it but ... no dice. :confused2:

Anyone with the same problem?

Thanks

#1 - the original homelink manuals were out of date. You need to point your garage remote, not at the buttons as the manual states, but facing the rear of the car from the windshield (inside) above the rearview mirror.

#2 - you may have (more than likely have) an opener with a rolling code, that will require you to put your garage door opener in learn mode to accept the homelink signal after you have trained it from the remote. This is not clear in the manual.

#3 - call homelink - thier number (I beleive) is in the manual. They have helped many others with this issue. If you can't find the number, do a google search for the homelink website.

#4 - use the search function in this forum. Many, many, of the issues have been discussed a lot.

Homelink program

Go to the Homelink.com website and follow directions. (http://www.homelink.com/home/global.taf)

If you program and then get a rapid flash when you push button in car after programming, follow the directions re rolling code and the "learn" button on your opener. I found the key to be pushing the car button three times during the time the opener "learn" is activated as per the Homelink site info, rather than just once as implied in the car owners manual.

Ditto. I tried it about a hundred times the way the manual says and it never worked. I also tried the instructions on the Homelink website (which basically said the same thing as the car manual). Finally called the Homelink 1-800 number in the manual and they told me about holding the remote under the dome lights or below the rear-view mirror. Worked the first time I tried it that way.

Sure enough - holding the remote under the dome lights worked! :joy: I too have attempted to program my Homelink buttons dozens of times without success - even the Homelink customer service rep couldn't help me. I had to go out and buy an additional remote for $30 :anger: Thanks to this site, the problem is solved  This site is invaluable - thanks to all who participate!

Had the same problem, and here's what you do. Hold your portable remote in front of the headliner (just in front ot the mirror) and then follow the procedure. That worked for me. The manual is very ambiguous about the programming process.
