I had intended to get the Upsolute flash upgrade for my V6 TDI but the supplier stopped responding to emails once I asked for clarification on a few of their claims. That made me back away.

So, I was wondering if anyone else has successfully done a performance flash and if so who was the supplier and how satisfied are you? Any specifics on before and after "actual" performance AND fuel mileage would be of great value to this forum.

thanks,

Simply asked for HP/Torque specifics on the U.S. version of the V6 TDI, asked them to clarify their torque numbers as they didn't jive when converted from Nm to lb.ft., and asked them to verify how their before/after fuel mileage numbers were arrived at? Pretty basic stuff.

Naturally, need to understand what I am actually buying.

I would speak to a local Upsolute dealer vs. contacting upsolute HQ. local dealers in my experience have been VERY responsive.

I am considering buying a V6 TDI so I may ask my local dealer and post his response here...

I think a Dyno graph might be something reasonable to request.

As a side note, I did contact MTM in Montreal (sole Canadian dealer) as they have a 300hp flash for the 3.0TDI Bluemotion ECU EDC17 and they have quoted me $1,000 plus HST vs the 1,400 or 1,500 Euros that's listed on their website.

I think their tune puts out 300hp and 460lb/ft.

I had the same experience(non-response) from an Upsolute Dealer. I'm in Atlanta, GA and the closest Upsolute rep is in NC. I sent an email asking for info, and got a response. I then sent another email stating that I was interested, was three hours away, and to give me info on how long it would take so I could see about scheduling a stop-over. Never got a response. Called and left them a VM... Still no response. So unless I can find another Upsolute rep within three hours, I guess im stuck. I really dont want to ship off my ECU, nor can I do without my Treg for 3-7 days...

Even though I would personally prefer a flash......I hate the fact that the dealer will know immediatly. I am looking at a tuning box from Dieseltuning.ca . Not quite the power of a flash but it is listed at 270hp which is not bad for the price.
And I can take it out within 5 min ;-)

As Vandamme reported, I too was getting the non-response from the closest Upsolute dealer to me here in Kansas which was Dallas. I have not contacted Upsolute themselves. I figured that I needed to have reliable local support of whatever I do and naturally this doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy.

The dealer will not know about the flash, unless they actually hook up a boost gauge and go for a spin, and notice a few more PSI/BAR of boost over stock. What are the chances of that? ;).

If for some God awful, 1/100 reason you do need to revert the flash back to stock, you never lose the program that you paid $$$ for. Why? Precisely. Because you paid for it and it is yours to keep. At least that is how the smart flash/chip makers operate.

I think reliable local support is THE MOST important factor when choosing a tuner.

Well....my dealer takes my Touareg out for a spin every time my car is serviced. You really think that they will not notice the extra 60HP?
And if something goes wrong.....what then? If the dealer wants to find out they will know. The flash is not reversible by you....just by the tuner and there is still the counter on your ECU that will tell the dealer on the flash counts.

Well, that's not the case with me here, and yes, all my TDI's past and present were tuned from day 1;), from showroom floor. Old news for me really.

I've worked closely with all my tuners, meaning we would always be on the same team, to prevent and theoretical case scenarious from going astray.

I guess flashing/chipping is just not for you, so I won't bother argueing my point any further. ;)

What scares me on the Unitronic site is that for our V6 TDI they say 16psi... my boost gauges shows up to 27psi spikes stock. ;) LOL

That's not cheap. But coming from MTM, I bet it's the real deal. Wish I had a grand to burn.

Spikes are not really something to go by, and I really don't think they run that much stock. I'll have to see if I can find stock numbers on monday when I get back to the shop. I don't want to say too much without having the facts behind it.

Do any other tuners express the running pressure? I have to look at my book again, I remember this setup having a complicated Intercooler setup.

I wouldn't bother - no value in the $'s they want. Try this site - it delivers the power and is cheaper and I've fitted one to mine. Also takes minutes to remove from the harness if you need to send Treg in for service/warranty:

Volkswagen tuning box | Panther-Tuning-Box

Just a note that VW 3.0 TDI's come in more than one power output, so makes sure you are very specific. These guys are very good with email and support and you will get the support after you install.

Good engineering practice = Keep it simple and standard. The chip fulfils that for me, not an ECU flash update.

I sustain up to 20psi with spikes up to 27 on my STOCK Touareg... FYI

I heard the new V6 TDI runs very high boost stock which is where the 400+ TQ number comes from. :)
