Does anyone know if these can be ordered seperatly, and if so from where? They seem to be of poor design and I need to get a replacement one. These are the ones used for volume, selection, etc.

Wow... umm...

How did yours break? My brother is in a situation similar to this, only it belongs to another person and he's thinking he's going to have to buy a whole new unit. If anybody knows anything about fixing this, PLEASE let me know!

Lets just say I may have pushed a little too hard when I was selecting something and I hit a bump on the road. :anger: It only pushed in a little, but it still worked. I tried to pull it back out but that would not go.

If you open up the nav unit, the dial only has 4 small snap posts on it, not sure if it is glue or something else, anyways hard to explain but they are very thin, like a paper match stick stalk and hold the part that connects to the pot on the circuit board, there is about 3/4" behind it and the button surface when you push it in.

Basically, imagine a tree stump with 2 match sticks laid like a cross over the top, and the knob is a hood that covers the whole thing.

In other words, if you have the factory NAV be carefull! Since these buttons are abviously made only for VW, I wonder if its a seperarte part.

All the radio buttons on either radio are designed to break off in an accident. I assume someone was once injured by their radio and probably sued. VW doesn't offer any replacement parts for the radio. Maybe if you returned the radio to Blaupunkt in Germany it could be fixed.

I have a similar problem. The menu dial on my nav unit is pushed in. I dont know if it can be fixed. I took it to a repair shop and they said they cant do it, because the factory hasnt put out any diagrams to show how. If I open the unit up, can I fix it? Anyone know? Should I even try to open the unit, or will I make it even worse by opening it? Anyone know where to get a cheap new navi unit? Also if bring it to the dealer, can they fix it even if it isnt the radio that came with the truck? thanks.

It would have to go back to Blaupunkt to fix it. There are usually replacement nav units on eBay for sale.

Who broke it? Your dealer while trying to fix the hood open problem you mentioned in another thread? If this is the case, then they should replace it for you.

Thanks spockcat for your reply. The knob broke during shipping. I took out my radio and installed the nav unit to make sure it powers up and the knob was the only problem. The unit powered up fine. I then went to put my stock radio back in and that is when I have the problem of the hood indicator light coming on.
I fixed the indicator problem. The light came on when I was pushing the radio into the dash when there was about 1 inch left to go. I just kept going to see what would happen...when the unit clicked into place, the light went off. I was very happy...I still have no idea why the light comes on. thanks

Did you buy this nav radio off eBay, claimed to be new or in perfect condition? If this is the case, I would suspect that it didn't break off in shipping but rather it was already broken and the guy just shipped it to you so he could file a claim or get rid of the problem.

As to why the light went out when you pushed back in the radio, that is the way it is designed. There is a sensor in the radio to detect if it is all the way in the dash. It seems only to be on the standard radio, not the nav radio.

Yes I bought it off Ebay, and the seller claimed it to be in prefect condition. If he broke it, or if it broke during shipping, I will never know. Filling a claim is a min. 90 day pain in the ass. I guess that is what I am going to have to do though. In the meantime, I would like to buy another nav unit. Do you know anywhere that sells them for a good price and is trustworthy. The german sellers on Ebay scare me a bit. I would like to use paypal to pay. Also, if I order from Germany, and have it shipped to the US, do I have to pay certain taxes at the post office or anything? thanks

Now I have another problem. Since the Nav Unit I bought was damaged during shipping, I sent it back to UPS who forwarded it to the seller to process the claim. Now I dont have the navi unit and I am out my money. The seller will not refund my money until the damage claim goes through....(figure 90 days) He also claims he can fix the unit, therefore he doesnt want (nor will he at this point) to refund my money....he wants to fix it and send it back to me. Stupidly, I already won an auction for another navi unit before the seller told me he cant return the money. I couldnt let the auction go, the seller accepts paypal and has enough feedback to have the paypal protection guarantee.....so now I will have two units! anyone need a navi unit and wants it at a great price? let me know. Email me at rendies1@optonline.net thanks
