Panoramic sunroof rail cleaning

Hi,

I know there have been some mentions of this in the forum here but I wanted to see if anyone had some additional information.

went to the beach to go kiting on an absolutely howling day. Left the sunroof cracked maybe two inches but the wind picked up so much sand got blown into the guide rails for the sunroof. Obviously terrible idea and worse outcome.

has anyone personally gone in and cleaned then re-greased the rails up there. If so what’s the best method?

Already vacuumed out most of the sand but still hear a ton of it and squealing and struggling on open and close. I haven’t gone further than just vacuuming what I can see. if taking off anything is a better option then I’m open to that too.

have white lithium grease at the ready.

Thanks!

Copied from a VW/Audi repair manual.
1.18 Maintenance and Care
As a rule, regular maintenance is not required for the panorama sun roof.
If it is necessary to clean because of heavy contamination, only use the Cleaner - D 009 401 04- .
Then the sliding areas -3- in the guide rails -2- must be re-lubricated with Lithium Grease - G 052 147 A2- .
A,B & C on fig 24.
The inner seal -1- and the outer seal -4- have a lubricated coating and do not need to be lubricated.
A, B & C on fig 22. (think this is where silicone spray would be used)
Do not lubricate the cables and the motor support
