Hello everyone. I have 2014 Touareg 3.0L TDi. I am frustrated with this oil leak that did not go away after replacing the oil cooler. I bought this car back in July, and the previous owner told me it has an oil leak that is coming from the oil cooler based on his mechanic advice (VW Expert). I changed it with Pierberg brand oil cooler. The mechanic that I took the car to and replaced it, is not a diesel expert but BMW expert. It is still leaking, and it is driving me nuts. I suspect it is the valve cover gasket, or maybe something else. or even defective oil cooler. What leaks would fill the valley and spell the overflow to the front and back? I also noticed there is some sort a mist of oil on the surface of the right valve caver (passenger side) Any help is greatly appreciated

Are the injector seals leaking? Common on these engines

Oil cooler, the plate underneath it, and the bypass adapter that connects to that plate that plus all the associated gaskets and also the intake square gaskets. What do you think it could be? like i aidethere is a layer of oil mist on the surface of the righ hand (driver side valve cover and sometimes smoke comes from the same side? I know you are very knowledgable. Thank you

Asking the internet where your oil leak is coming from is not a recipe for success

If you like to wrench yourself it's worth having evap and oil leak detection tools in your garage.

Smoke machine, talcum powder, dye, UV light...

Smoke machine success with oil leak detection very much depends on the type of leak - for example forget about about bottom leaks like the oil pan, rear main seal etc - but for the rest it's most often successful.

It recently took me less than 15 minutes to find a camshaft seal leak on my wife's Tiguan 5N using this ANCEL S300.

I don't typically trust the previous owners word on what is wrong. They often make things up to make a car easier to sell.
