Hey all... I'm new to Touareg, just last week bought a gently used 2014, under warranty etc. I have a weird issue... or I think it's an issue. Is this normal? My Nav display has a blue bar across the top ONLY in 3D mode. See images. Would appreciate your thoughts.

The blue bar is the horizon when in 3D mode. This is by design.

The way it looked, I didn't THINK it was a malfunctioning screen. It just seems weird to me to have it. :) Thanks!

Does this serve some useful purpose to which I'm ignorant? Because it seems to be just a big waste of screen to me.

Agree the horizon could be smaller. I dunno...doesn't bother me. Maybe it's that way to help with the 3D effect. It's less noticeable when the NAV is in daylight mode.

What I guess my point is, I don't get why it's there at all. The horizon.. to eliminate part of a map. What's the purpose in that? I mean, a map, by definition, is to help you get to a place you can't directly see. So...why make it harder to see everything you otherwise could? It just isn't logical. LOL It's not killing me or anything, I just think it's weird. Thanks! Stupid question 2 on the way. ;)

3D mode is the key here - how can you even THINK of 3D without sky? [if you are a VW engineer] It surely wouldn't be appropriate to make the sky grey as in rainy day.!

I've seen plenty of 3d displays that didn't find it necessary to represent the sky. It's a matter of downward looking perspective. What's odd to me is that it's the opposite of what (imo) it should be. At 10,000 feet, like when skydviing, I get that you'd see the sky and horizon. But when you're only a few hundred feet off the ground, and you can see details only a couple blocks away, right before you go SPLAT! LOL Not so necessary to represent, again, IMO. But hardly the end of the world. Just glad it's not a defect. :)

It is a horrible 2D representation on a 3D map. Who needs the sky? It is so stupid. I rarely use 3D because of it. Why would anybody think losing 15% off the top of a map would be a good thing? What we have here is a classic german overthink.

Push the icon in the bottom left corner to regain the bottom 15% of the screen.

Now what I'd really care to see is a vertical split screen showing audio/radio/media on one half, and nag map (for traffic) on the other half.
