Noise coming from the passenger vent...

This is a bit annoying... There is a noise that sounds like a squirrel or something is in the passenger vent. Obviously there isn't one in there but that is best way I can describe it. Squealing. It only happens when the heater/blower is on. If I turn it all the way down it goes away. As I rev RPM's up the noise is louder. The car seems to run fine and there aren't any error codes/lights--other than the TPMS one that is always there.

It is a 2004 V6 with 85,000 miles on it. I have read through 10 or so other posts and none of those sound like my problem. Ideas? thanks,

Dan

I have a similar problem involving the HVAC on the passenger side. Oftentimes when the blower is on, there's an almost clicking sound, as if a vent is trying to open. Definitely not a squealing sound, but it definitely is annoying.

Looking forward to hearing other's experience/ideas on this topic...

Thx for the message Brad. It is NOT a clicking sound. It sounds like a small animal is in there. More of a chirping high pitched sound. Only happens when the fan is on. Maybe a bearing in a fan or something? I'm not savvy enough to know if that is an option but i'm open to anything to make it stop. I would bring it to the dealer but its 3 hours away. And they never fix anything anyways.

This same thing happened to mine 2004 V8 in the early summer, and I took it in for oil service and brakes, and at that time they changed out the air filter I think. Once this was changed, the noise went away.

However, in the last week, the blower for the heat and air stopped entirely. No noise no airflow on heat or AC. The indicator shows all of the bars but no airflow.

Noise in passenger vent eliminated with new blower motor

I had help from my extended warranty company. They only pay up to $300.00 for the part, so if you check with VW the part must be more than that. According to my service bill, VW dealer installed a blower motor sent to them by the extended warranty company. No labor was quoted, I paid a deductable of $100.00. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The dang wipers are $30 each on these if you buy the VW version. I had the Jilly Lube slap on some different ones with adaptors for $30 for the pair. Work great. Today I get to try to change a headlight. At least the bulb on that was only $15.
I was able to get wipers from VW for $54.00 for blades including the rear (3 blades) from my dealer. I did install them myself. I don't do the bulbs though as the dealer guarantees them and the labor.

CONFIRMED. I had my tech replace the blower motor and it fixed the problem. The list cost of the part was $400 but he obtained it for $230. It took him an hour of labor to pull it out and put it back in. If you bring it to VW the job would likely be $600 or more. If you know someone that is handy with this sort of stuff (any mechanic) you can get it done relatively inexpensively. You access the motor via the passenger foot rest area. Not the easiest thing to get to but no special tools are required. It is just a little tight in there and couple of screws are hard to access.

If you car starts with the noise and gets worse, it is that motor. He showed me how and what was making the noise. VW stocks the part so it is something that happens regularly. That is what the parts guy told my tech anyways. Hope this helps!

What exactly on the blower motor is making the noise? I had mine out and did a quick clean/dust-off with compressed air and the noises went away for about 2 weeks... now they're coming back. I'm convinced that something in the motor just needs a bit of dry lube. While I had the motor out i couldn't replicate the noise. There was a lot of dry black powder inside the motor and all over the fan.

Pulling this motor is super easy with an electric screw driver, flashlight, some extensions, and a 7/32 socket. The motor/case then can come apart with a flat head screw driver. There's 3, or 4, rubber tabs holding the motor to the case and they can be pulled apart after the blower assembly is on the workbench.

Can anyone advise if the blower motor is the same for LHD and RHD cars ?
Have to replace for my Father-in-Law and a few sites to buy from say LHD. Don't want to take the chance ordering and shipping from USA to OZ to find it won't fit.

I have removed and lubed the blower motor and it looks the same to the eye ?

Thanks

The lube trick worked, no noise for now. In-laws happy.....

That video made removing the blower a breeze !
