Now the dealer and VW coustomer care tell me their haveing problems with the wiring loom....They say they have no idea how long it will be....Very disappointed as we had a caravan holiday planed. BE WARNED NO TOWBAR for Touareg 2011 in Australia!!

There is a known world wide problem with the electronics affecting mainly driver assistance packages.
VW now appear to have a fix (software) for this now and are undergoing testing from head office in Germany.
From what I can understand the fix is not that far off.

Thanks Flipper Dog for your quick reply ...I dont suppose you know how long
By the way mine is white with big hole in roof, black leather etc
Very happy with it ...just love it ....just need the towbar

thats one nice hole to have!....sure does change the experience of being inside the Touareg, especially in the back

You can get the tow bar fitted now if the dealer has one in stock. The electronics will need a quick upgrade via the CANBUS once the fix is released.
From what I can find out the problem affects the frontal driver assistance aids which may cause problems with the ESP to the trailer. Other models are not reporting problems.

This only affects the fixed tow bar not the goose neck (Euro Type) we don't get here.

you could have towbar fitted at a 4x4 joint and just use a generic protected relay box, cheaper and no hassles. however this means you have no interface with egg abs or bulb broken gizmos..... i did this on my last 4x4 including an egg. old school but never fails!

VW SNAFU..............all sounds perfectly normal! Like I said earlier prior to the 2011 release here, you get a new model you gotta live with the bugs. Not what you want I know. Vent your spleen on the dealer 'cause they should have told you about this before you shelled out the extra $1800. VGA it ain't good enough!

I agree ... But I thought that this model was released in the US some time ago ...in fact it was released in New Zealand last November
They all must have towbars or are theirs all faulty? Still no eta on the wiring kit!

It's not faulty, mine has always worked (albeit with a warning chime when LED trailer is hooked up to it), what makes it interesting for auto elecs is the complicated and convoluted setup, like fuse that's in a parallel circuit, i.e. blown fuse, no fault code, so people thinks everything is working, just not working with their trailer, so they spend two hours checking trailer wiring, 2 hours checking Treg wiring, and on and on ..... only to discover much later that there is a fuse and it's blown. This is just one example.

I know an auto elec here that 'used' to contract work one of the dealers, and he always go to the dealership to do work on Touaregs because it requires a combination of VAG technician and an auto electrician to figure things out. Needless to say, he refuses those jobs now.

I just purchased a 2015 Touareg 150TDI Element and had VW fit a towbar, now shows a Blown Bulb error on the dash when the caravan is hooked up, the caravan does have all LED lights so purchased a Load Box from VW, still not working correctly, they spent 5 hrs on the vehicle yesterday and now blloed back in again on the 27th to try and get to the bottom of the problem

Thanks for all the suggestions ...but the fact is theres no third party towbar or box for the electrical that can be fitted to the touareg 2011
Theres no way at this point of time a towbar can be fitted to this vw ... and whats more no ETA from dealer or costomer care!!

Is there a VW problem? Something wrong with the car's ability to tow or the setup of attaching a towbar to the car?

Its been a month now and still no towbar and no eta ...could be another month or more.......the real joke is that only touaregs fitted with driver assist are effected ...mine hasnt got it and will never have it and they still wont fit it......very angry!!!

No tow bar! No Touareg yet in Canada!

Hi there,
I signed up earlier this year thinking that I will be able to swap stories on the new Toureg but I can't
I ordered a new Touareg in 2nd week in March from a dealer in North Bay, Ontario, Canada and it is August and it hasn't arrived yet! I am getting a little put off by the whole system. i am thinking in cancelling my order but I keep thinking every week that maybe it will be arriving .
S when I heard that somebody in Australia cannot get a tow bar fitted then is leaves a somewhat sour taste in when will I be getting my car. it has been so long now that I am considering something else.
Anybody have any comments/

Try and get the VIN from the dealer and this link https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb/ocean.do?method=getDefaultOceanQuickSearchPage (from the home page customer centre then track and trace) you will be able to trace where your car is.

Just picked up mine as per below without the bar, the dealers can get in the parts but are unable to fit without head office approval.
So watch this space because once I find out when it is released I'll be getting it fitted....something to bring up with VW Aust in the next GTG.

A UK owner reports as follows:

LATEST - There is no problem or fire risk with the wiring. Load of rubbish. Its to do with the coding not meeting VW standards so they suspended selling the kits. Apparently its been resolved but nobody told VW. It affects Comfort Kits (?) apparently. Westfalia are fitting the bar next week, but the car then has to go to VW for coding. Should be interesting.

You'll have to do your own digging I'm afraid!

Can someone please explain why VW wont let the dealer fit the towbar and the wiring kit to my particular car when there is no problems in doing so....no one seems to able to answer that for me
