I have just had the 30,000km service.......all good, other than being advised that I will need to replace the tyres "pretty soon".

Any tips on replacement tyres........I do not go off road very much, mainly sealed road travel, towing a 3 tonne van.:)

I will soon be in the same situation - 25k on mine, will be needing a new set of four by 30k…
Personally I think this is a ridiculously poor life from a $2000 set of tyres, especially as I have never burnt rubber or even driven the thing to it's limits, ever…
I normally never get less than 70k from a set of tyres :(

Fact of life with high speed rated tyres. Mine are good for over 300kph but only last 15 to 20K. You want performance capability you'll pay for it somewhere.
But good luck, p'raps someone can come up with something. Dub

cooper AT3 you will get 80,000km plus. with 38/40psi. good ride too
of course not rated 300km/h lol but plenty enough

Hi all.

Currently running a 255/60/17 on factory rims and Goodyear SUV tyres and need to change up to some ATs as I am heading out to Arnhemland for a few years with work.

No much available at OEM size so am considering going up to 265/65/17.
By mu calculations it will be diameter variance of 5.22% giving me a KM increase (at 10km) of about 5km... seeing as my speedo shows 100km when I am only doing 96km (by GPS) I am not concerned about the variance; but should I be????

Tyres I am considering are -

BF Goodrich AT
Cooper Discoverer AT/3
Pirelli Scorpion ATR
General Grabber AT2
Yokohama Geolandar A-T-S
Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor

Thoughts.... Anyone??????

I'm getting the Yokohama...they seem to get consistently the best reviews throughout the internet out of the above bunch....I had the Grabbers and BF Goodrich on a previous truck...lets say I wasn't very impressed by either...

Fizz,
Goodrich AT's are very popular in the bush. Get LT's (light truck spec) - important for 'toughness'. Also, on dirt, reduce pressures to approx 32 psi & don't exceed 80kph & you'll be fine. Dub

Goodyear silent armour . Best wear and grip out of the bunch.BFG KM1's are rubbish when semi worn, wet grip is nearly zero.. Long lasting but hard and a honeymooners wanga.

Hi Johannes,
Check this out, should answer your question hopefully.
OEM VW Touareg and Audi Q7 stock wheel picture gallery database 5x130 lug bolt pattern

BTW, I am running Pirelli Scorpion ATR's on 17" Malaku's I bought on eBay for my MY13. Almost 7000 Kms' so far with a trip to the Back of Bourke along the Darling River and at the moment doing some 4wding in the forests around Ulladulla. No complaints so far. The main thing that got me to buy these are they are quiet and have good grip on bitumen roads and are quite capable as all terrain tyres as well. Definitely not Mud Tyres though!

hmmm interesting Fizz probably coopers if there warranty has any credit umm had bfg mts on my patrol they were awesome yes the steering wheel used to shake so what lol
The patrol did come with bridgstone duallers think it was the 686ht pattern since dropped apart from 5ks with the bfgs on sold the patrol with 120ks on it and the duallers still had 5 or so thousand on them and were not looked after to any degree don't think I even checked tyre pressures over that time I don't remember any way but I have also got a set of Porsche 18s with scorps on them half worn I have to throw on to try but that's antoher story

I replaced my goodyear tyres with the Pirelli greens but only got 25k out of them - I spend a fair deal of time researching local and overseas experiences and comparing costs and decided to buy the Yokahama Geolander SUV only done 5000k but they seem to be wearing very well and the dealer said I should get at least 40k

I also just had my 30000km service, and my tyres need replacing NOW!!! I tow a 3.5 tonne horse float, and live on a dirt road, but otherwise all driving on sealed roads.

I have got a good price on Kumo KL51, which have an 80000km warranty. They are 10% off road and 90% road.

I also investigated the General Grabbers.

I've just got back from the tyre shop with a set of ContiCrossContact AT 265/65/R17s. First impressions:

- they're actually noticeably quieter than the old worn-out (down to the wear-bar) Pirelli Scorpion STR 255/60/R17s. The Pirellis always felt pretty good though, but were much more of a sealed road tyre and I was looking for something that would be a bit better for the odd occasions off-road.

- measuring the vehicle height before and after indicates a rise of about 30mm, comprising no doubt the calculated 19.5mm tyre radius difference and the approx. 10mm wear on the old tyres.

- still plenty of clearance in the front wheel wells.

I was reasonably keen on the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S, but it was going to cost an extra $400 for five tyres, so I thought I'd give the Continentals a go. Given that the vast majority of my driving is on sealed roads, I was keen on a reasonably high-speed rated tyre - the Geolandars are H (I think about 240 kph) and the Contis are T (190 kph), which is better than a lot of other All-Terrain tyres.

Just had a set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR 265/65-17's fitted to our 2013 180. Quiet and comfortable, only concern is the tread face is narrow, edge to edge about 215mm.

A friend has Bridgestone D697's in the same size, tread face on those is 235mm.

The 17 inch rims I'm using are from a T3 150, Atacama I think.

I run Nitto 420s 265/50-20's on the 20 inch Pikes Peak wheels, anyone looking for replacement 20's these are fantastic, grip well, quiet, steer well, look great and comfortable

I have been pretty happy with the Pirelli Scorpion ST's, my last set returning 45k and that is with plenty of caravan towing. Recently had Pirelli Scorpion Verde fitted which do seem pretty good. They have the low roll resistance tread. They are quiet and handle very well.
