New Treg owner - slow acceleration

Hi everyone

After a couple of years out of the VW game, I have returned (used to own a MY08 GTI).

Picked up a 2005 R5 2.5 TDI Treg with 87,000kms for $13,500 last week which I thought was a bargain. It is due for a service (has been 12 months since last one) but I have noticed that it is a lot slower than what it should be.

My 0-100 time is about 23 seconds!!! It has an ok feel down low but under load or with the foot flat to the floor it really struggles.

Not sure if it is one, or both, of the cats. From looking at other posts I think my car doesn't have a DPF so am looking at other potential problems.

There are no warning lights. The last owner did a lot of city driving too.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jono

Check the fuel filter. It should be the first thing to replace upon purchase of the vehicle.

And the air filter too.

I recently had my R5 connected to some diagnostic stuff. They cleared some old code issues and the drive home was totally different. Placebo effect or not I don't know, but I don't care it's definitely better with pick-up and pulls better.

Diff oil change tomorrow, looking forward to driving home!!

Update for those that are interested or who come across this thread with similar problems.

Turned out to be a vacuum leak so there was hardly any boost. Elvis at Volks Autohaus (highly recommend him to anyone in the Melbourne area, especially those on the West side) sorted it out for me after running a scan.

Cheers
