Hello there i buy new Volkswagen Touareg TDI 2013 with 240000km last week i changed the oil with 5w-40 full synthetic but the start see some oil leaking so what is the best oil for high milage without damage the engine is 10w-40 synthetic if good enough please advise
Best Regards

Hi there. Which engine?

Normal oil for the engine is a 10W-30 Low SAPs oil approved to the VW specification for this engine. Where is the engine leaking from as grade of oil used does not normally affect oil leaks to any great degree. If you dont use the correct low SAPs oil you will foul the DPF faster than otherwise and at 240 k kms you will be potentially nearing the end of the DPF life from Ash fouling.

I think knowing where the OP is seeing the oil leaking from is a very relevant question and the answer might help others zero in on a fix.

Design life for DPF from ash fouling is stated to be 200 to 250 k kms from multiple sources. That is probably conservative which is why I said potentially nearing end. This will be heavily dependent on actual oil consumption and how good the oil actually is so exceeding this with low oil consumption and good low SAPs oil will of course be possible. Less than that if using a lot of oil and using crap oil also possible

I ask because the documents I've seen are very vague and loose on the expected lifespan when it comes to "filling up".
As you know, there are many, many factors in said lifespan.
I've attempted to collect some data around here, based on which, I cannot "agree" with your quote value.
The typical failures I've seen around are more internal structural type than actual capacity related.
IMO, typical use\driving cycles and maintenance are the two largest factors.

Ok understood now what is the best oil for my engine is 10w40 synthetic is good high milage

There are 2 failures modes of a DPF I am aware off
1. Cracked filter media - probably sensitive to driving cycles and usage and not repairable
2. Ash fouling - The majority of this comes from oil burning in the engine from the additives in the oil. More oil burning, more ash, shorter life. Non low Saps oil, more ash, shorter life. Its possible to remove ash from a DPF with the right chemical treatment, it is not removed with the normal carbon regen processes.

Given the huge variation in oil usage from almost nothing to a VW claimed "normal maximum" of 1 qt per 1000 miles, life of a DPF is going to be very variable from an Ash fouling perspective so your variable data does not surprise me. I was just quoting statements on the internet such as ypu find when ypu google "DPF design life VW". And yes I know not to believe what I read on the internet without a lot of serious engineering analysis

You have an oil leak to find and fix.... nothing is the best when you can't keep it contained to your engine.
If you just want an oil that will "fix" your leak, you'll just ruin what's left of your engine.

I'm not familiar with the offerings to provide correct answer. I'm sure that looking at PR codes and such, we could figure it out if we really needed to. I just know there are all sorts of mentions of various factors in the FSMs about these sorts of things, etc.
