Hi, I have a 2013 TDI
I recently replaced the halogen bulbs of the licence plate, for new LED t10 W5W lights. I replaced them because I wanted to have white light on the exterior.
The LEDs turn on right, they bright a lot more than the halogens, they are working how they are suposed to work.. but a warning comes up in the dashboard, that says "check for the licence plate lights" in spanish.

Does anyone has had the same issue? Although it works fine, I hate having warnings in my dashboard, so I dont know if to go back to halogen, or if I have to look for some special type of LEDS.

Note: the halogen bulb is 5watts, the LED is 1 watt.

Are the LED's that you have installed 'CANBUS' (Controlled Area Network BUS)? Sometimes, non-CANBUS Led's do through up fault messages like the one you're getting on your dash display, as if the vehicle's systems do not detect the presence of the Led's at all and interpret this as a broken bulb or 'bulb out'. Others will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that all Touaregs from 2002 onwards are Canbus compatible. Hope you get to enjoy the lovely bright LED's without any pesky warnings!

just an FYI, bulbs have nothing to do with the CANbus. That’s a terrible marketing line that resellers use for some unknown reason.

OP, you need LEDs that have resistors attached to mimic the 5w draw.
