Hello all wanted to post an update to a high camshaft adaptation number post earlier (really lose timing chain).

Ended up pulling the engine and transmission out and doing the work myself. The Cam adaptation number dropped from -9.6 to 0.63. Here's all the stuff i did
  • Resealed the upper oil pan
  • Resealed lower oil pan
  • New Timing chains, guides and tensioners
  • Front and back crank shaft seals
  • Front cover reseal
  • New water pump and Oil filter housing/ thermostat
  • Valley re-seal
  • New valley coolant flanges
  • All new O rings around the engine
  • Injector seals
  • Valve cover gasket and all the grommets on top of valve cover
  • Transmission filter, gasket and oil, transmission shaft seal
  • Both Engine mounts
Used either VW/Audi or the OEM supplier European parts. Happy to answer any questions you might have. Spent about $3,600 in parts, specialty tools and off road mods😉

I'm a diesel hobbyist/ enthusiast. I just worked on weekends. Took me about a month, most of it was waiting for parts some from Europe.

Hello yes, it can be pulled out from the front. I think either way you do it, it's about the same level of effort. Pulling from front, you won't have to pull the suspension, brakes, disconnect rack and pinion and the alignment needed for dropping the frame.

Mine has 201k miles, the soot buildup wasn't bad at all, not sure if it was cleaned before. I did the work immediately after buying it. I cleaned it with brake cleaner.
