Low Oil Light - 2017 Touareg V6

I recently purchased a VW Certified 2017 Touareg. I have only driven it 1200 miles since the purchase and I have an "add oil" light. Once I figured out how to check the oil level, it is very low. I am worried now since it is already significantly low with such low usage since their "detailed" inspection and update. Is this a common issue? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

I left it at the dealership today, but it really worries me that I am already having these kinds of issues on a car with on 35K miles on it total.

Yes that is within my capability. LOL. I have never owned a car that was all the way at the bottom of the capacity (reading showing just above the minumum oil level) with only having driven 1200 miles. The car has a 24-month manufacturer warranty from VW and it seemed prudent to have it checked out.

Probably had an oil change and the mechanic didnt put enough in which is far preferable to being over filled.

The level display is reset by opening the bonnet (hood) for 10 seconds or so. Then it will say "level available in 2 minutes". At 35k miles its unlikely to be anything wrong. Mine at 73k doesn't use any between services.

I figured it was better safe than sorry. Should hear more from the dealer tomorrow. I did open the hood yesterday when the light came on because I was looking for the dipstick to see how low it was. Then googled it when I couldn't find it to see that it is an electronic reading. Thanks for the reply.

It is annoying that the car will tell you to add oil, but there is no way to see how low it might be. You have to add oil till it gets back within the allowable range in order to see the level. No way to tell if its just an ounce or two low, or if you knocked a hole in the oil pan and lost it all.
